the engine management light is also on.

ive had a machanic out to it and used the snapon mt2500 scanner and it cam up with about 10 maybe 15 error codes.

also i had the engine light reset but it just came on again when it stalled.

Is the management light on while it's running or just as it cuts out ?
Most likley cause of this type of fault is a faulty low pressure fuel pump in the tank, very common problem.

the engine management light is aways on dureing running and also when it stops.

i dont think its a problem with the pump as it does it at the same amount of time.

do the low pressure pumps block then cut out because when i does it defo is the engine cuting itself out

To check the lift pump , when you turn the ignition on but before starting the engine you should be able to hear it run for a few seconds - you might need someone to turn the key while you listen for it.

You could also detach the fuel feed pipe from the filter and run it into a jam jar or similar, get someone to turn the key for a few seconds and fuel should be pumped into your container - keep it brief as you don't want drowning in diesel!

yes it does rev up and pumps the fuel but then when it cuts out ya turn the key and ya hear slight bump from the tank, if i leave it about 2 min and turn the key again the pump revs up and the car starts

Could be clogged. Next step is to drag it out of the tank and clean it.

right ive cleaned out the whole fuel system apart from the fuel filter, how the hell do ya get into it? lol.

i put it in a vice and put a ajustable spanner on it but it wront unscrew (does it unscrew?)

Its got a + and a - on it with arrows, im guessing that + is to tighten it and - is to unscre it

there also seems to be a metal ring round the top where it unscrews, does this have to come off?

Thanks Ant

Have you removed the lift pump from the tank?
There is no real need to dismantle it, just remove any crap from the strainer.

I presume you are talking about the diesel filter under the bonnet now.
If it is similar mine then the top just unscrews in the conventional manner.
It is very tight though, I had to use a small piece of wood and a hammer to start mine moving.
It was a bit of a bugger to seal again after replacing the filter.

There are quite a few variations though.

Haven't seen that type but someone here will know.
Was the strainer very dirty?

The 'hex' type does unscrew (only about 1/2 turn IIRC), but can be very tight - so much so that it's sometimes necessary to replace the whole canister :?

is the filter with the hex on top a fuel filter , as the SAXO's have an oil filter which you unscrew with a socket, and it has a full thread not just a bayonet,

can you post a picy on here of your filter

There are 2 types of filter for them & this is the earlier one. It should just unscrew with a socket on the hex, it is more of a bayonet fitting, less than a 1/4 turn should release it, obviously unclip the pipes first.
