ZX nearside rear window winder

Post by KEB1 »

Hi guys,

I went to wind the nearside rear window down on my ZX this evening and the winder span round in my hand and the glass dropped into the door
I haven't had a chance to dismantle it yet but does any one know what I am likely to find, how easy it is to fix and, if necessary, what parts I might require.
I hope this doesn't come across as a daft request but I hate taking interior trim apart  as it never seems to go back as tidy as it was before. I would like to know what I am letting myself in for.

Cheers,

Kristian.

If it's anything like the front door glass, there's a plastic clip to hold it in place.

I've had the door trim off my ZX a few times now - it's not too bad.

The cable that raises and lowers the glass will have snapped. Probably due to water getting past the window seal on the door and running down the cable and causing it to rust. Solution is a new winder from a scrappy if you can find one in better shape. If you do make sure that you cover the cable in as much waterproof grease as you can. Haynes describes the job pretty well if my memory serves. The only difficult part is removing the door lining without breaking the plastic lugs or ripping them from the hardboard lining and getting the clip that holds the glass onto the mechanism. It helps if you can get the one from the scrappy out yourself as you learn how it all comes apart on someone else's car! And keep whatever clip arrangement comes with the new winder as it may not match your existing one.

Thanks guys,

I had a look on the web and found a repair kit for the cable on E Bay http://tinyurl.com/38t9wnc. I'll strip it down first, just to make sure it's the cable, but this should solve the problem.

Cheers,

Kristian.
