ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT 2004C5 HDI 110BHP

Post by rogerc5 »

No shortage of info on this forum, but I am a bit confused still. My 2004 (04 reg) estate has displayed this message on startup for 8 weeks now, without apparent loss of performance.
The local independent plugged in the computer and diagnosed that the heater plugs needed renewal, as they operate at low speeds and low temps constantly.
They did look worn but after 27 miles the car still cried fault more often than a Wimbledon line judge, and I am financially worse off.
I have it booked in again this week- please can you tell me does it use Eolys fluid, and does it have a particulate filter? I intend to try to check for hose faults myself but not sure where they are.
It looks like it could be an expensive project without any guaranteed results.
Maybe best to leave it or will it case damage?

Well your 2.0HDi should not have a FAP filter, as far as im aware none of the 2.0HDi 110s fitted to C5s had them, so you wont have a particulate filter or eolys fluid.

Is the heater plugs the only thing a lexia brought up as faults on your car?

The 2.0 ltr doesn't have the FAP system so no EOLYS.
The heater plugs are not on constantly and in fact are probably hardly ever on.

The ANTIPOLLUTION message is saying that something is wrong with the engine management but the fact that it doesn't go into LIMP mode implies that it is not engine damaging. If it has bought up the message there has to be a relevant error code locked into the ECU.
I have reservations about just how good some of the general purpose diagnostic tools used by some garages are. I would suggest that you take it to somewhere that has the proper Citroen kit a Lexia, get it read on that.
Depending on where you are there may be a member of this group who can help with this go and have a look at the Lexia "sticky"

On an HDi, although the light only comes on for a short period, or not at all, the plugs do in fact come on, and have a long post-glow period to help with cold start emissions - which gives them a hard life. It is, apparently, almost normal to have a failed glow plug error message at higher mileages.

Having said that, mine started no problems this winter at -15°C and it has done 100k without having the plugs renewed, but then my journey to work is 30 miles, so it doesn't do many short trips....

My understanding (which could well be incorrect) is that what you say is true with the addition of "when the ambient temperature requires it" which as I understand it is not as often as one might think even in the u.k.
