Yes wheeler, it is a 16 pin that is a similar shape to the image above. i managed to get the ELM327 kit hooked up but it was a tight fit due to a lump on 1 side were there was no gap on the kit but got connected anyway eventually except i get an ECU error.
This is the furthest i got, other software wouldnt even recognise the device.
I dont know why it wont connect to the ECU

All pre-2001 Citroens and Peugeots use a different software language to EOBD and EOBD2. The only software that can read and interrogate all PSA electronic functions has to be based on this software. You may get readouts but that is all you'll get. You'll need to get either Lexia or Proxia based diagnostics.
The makers of some of this cheap DIY diagnostic gear omit to tell Citroen and Peugeot owners that it wont work on their cars.

I doubt you will be able to download any Citroen based diagnostic software onto your diagnostic equipment unless the equipment is designed specifically for PSA, Citroen or Peugeot cars.
As I stated, Citroen and Peugeot do not use EOBD or EOBD2 as their diagnostic language prior to 2001, so any diagnostic equipment using another software language will not provide all the diagnostic functions.
Have a look at some of the recent posts about Lexia, as this is the diagnostic system used by Citroen. If you do not wish to buy a Lexia system, you maybe able to find a FCF member near to you that does have the equipment and will plug in your car for a small fee. There is a location map available on the forum.
