Citroen picasso dilemma...

Post by bobharford »

Hi

I have a Picasso desire diesel 2.0 HDI o5 plate.

It sounds rough when idling and car judders a bit. Apart from that starts 1st time every time and is OK when driving.
The citroen main dealer charged £80 to have a look and said diagnostic computer showed no fault so they would replace injectors to see if that is the problem and if not investigate further.

Coolant level is OK and no water in oil. Another garage said may be head gasket.

I wondered if anyone had a similar problem? Any idea what it is?
Is it worth paying up to £1000 to get it repaired and sell private?
I am up front about the problem when trying to sell. Just me, can't be dishonest!
I want to sell and get a smaller car. Local dealer not interested in trade and another offered £1000 trade in after ringing me back after second thoughts.

Any pointers would be appreciated!!

Hi Bob and welcome.
Where abouts are you? Maybe one of our resident Lexia owners would run a diagnostic for you?

Otherwise I would be going to a diesel specialist and getting the injectors tested. £1,000 is a lot to spend on a speculative fault.

I am in South Wales.
Someone mentioned I recall it may be worn engine mountings, I may try Redex tonight.

How bad is the juddering?

Whats the mileage on your Picasso?

Asuming its not done a massive mileage, an 05 Picasso HDi would be worth considerably more than £2000 on the used market (your trade in valuation + the price of injectors) So getting them fitted and selling the car would be better than trading it in in my opinion.

However, Id go with what Steve said, get it to a diesel/injector specialists and see what they find. It should be cheaper than the dealer and they will know what they are doing.

The juddering is ni not severe it is noticeable and tou can feel the steering wheel vibrating and the car shaking a bit.
As soon as you start driving it sounds and feels fine which I think is odd.
It has about 90 thousand miles.
Quote we had for replacing injectors is £800 to 900.
Citroen main dealer says only way to check the injectors is to take top off then they are committed to replacing them- it may also not solve the problem!

Try Forte Diesel System Additive. About £12-13 but Aldi sometimes have it for £9.99.

If you are using Tesco or other Supermarket fuel, try using Shell V-Power for a couple of tankfulls.

Tried the Forte and the problem is still there, a bit worse if anything.
Think I am going to stick it on ebay being upfront about the problem.
