I have noticed tonight that I am getting a metallic clicking noise from the area around the base of the cam belt. The cam belt was renewed along with the water pump about 25k miles ago. Is this the tensioner giving up the ghost or something else? I have checked the invoice for the work done and can see no mention of tensioner. Is this a difficult job or should I use my local Citroen Indy?

Could very well be the tensioner and you can't really afford to take any
chances. I've encountered a bottom crank bolt loosening undone as it
wasn't torqued and threadlocked which sounded like a bearing giving out
on a pump/alternator on a Xant TD so a quick looksee through the wheelarch
with the liner dropped off will help determine where you go next.

Definitely worth a look. If the tensioner bearing gives up you would be looking at a siezed engine. If at all suspect it should be changed. Mine used to squeal under certain driving conditions but I ignored it to my cost. I seem to recall valve replacement was necessary along with new belts etc.
