lost power - ESP...

Post by hdi_man »

well had the car 2 weeks now with no issues...

then this morning pulling away from some traffic lights the power went...I thought I had hit speed limiter or something, then something about ESP flashed up. I stuck hazzards on, and restarted the engine, everything was OK and I pulled away.

I'm worried that the car has the common issue I have read about now !

Ive never heard any loss of power problems on the C5 II. Ours has been no problems at all and the traction control shouldnt effect power.

Doesnt ESP keep the car in a straight line if it detects a slide? So i wouldnt have thought that should effect pulling away.

C5s and probably other cars will disable the ESP/Traction control when the engine goes into limp home mode. I guess Limp mode cannot fiddle with the torque to the wheels?
I think they use the abs and a reduction of power if the wheels spin to get the wheel to grip?

I didnt think that the traction control effected the power, it just applies brakes to the spinning wheel and in theory you should get on your way. Im sure that is what our C5 with ESP/traction control does anyway.

surely that is your esp cutting in and dropping the power to reduce wheel spin?

The Bosch website has some info. It can Accelerate the driven wheels. Ooh magic. It's like it can drive itself.

The ESP / ASR i.e traction control system will fail if cannot get Torque data from the engine ECU, there may be other data as well but I do know that Torque is one bit of data required. Certainly on the 2.2 C5 and I believe others an engine failure that goes into LIMP mode will cause the ESP / ASR system to fail because either the data is not valid or maybe not computed at all.
I would believe that the above would be true for most cars that have traction control.
