That makes things clearer Lee
If you only have the one key carefully remove the innards from the plipper inc batterier. You should now be able to see the 2 small buttons on the top of it and the led at the front.Just try pressing the buttons to see if the led lights up.Sometimes you may have to squeeze the batteries together to get a good contact(the spring clips go weak). If you do get the led to light up then the remote is working,so try locking/unlocking car pointing the remote at the dome in the roof.If the led on the plip works but no joy in locking etc then try this.
turn key to pre ignition position where all lights on dash turn on.Point plip at dome and keep pressing the little buttons.Turn ignition off, open and shut door then try the remote.
This is the procedure i used i think  but im sure someone will post up the official procedure

took car to a Citroen specialist today to get the remote's done but all he was going to was reprogram the keys he said i would be better off trying to see if there was any corrosion behind the dome but when i took the cover off there was nothing there?
is that where the remote sensor is or what else am i looking for?
thank you in advance

From my recollection of looking through the Citroen workshop manuals some Synergies got RF 2 button remote systems.
Saw this when I was researching for systems similar to the XM Mk2 RF setup.
The Xantia Mk2 also had a similar RF setup.
The receivers were TEXTON black boxes.
About 80 x 55 x 30mm with 9pin white double row plug.
As RF goes through metal they can be located in the dash.
Certainly so on an XM which also retains an empty IR slot in the roof light.
Even the IR wiring plug is present.
I never followed up Syn bits as they were not common in scrap yards.
The XM and Xantia setup looked very similar at first sight but proved to be a generic variation with incompatibilities.
Most important one was that Lexia programming only works with the Xantia not the XM.
Development order was XM first then Syn then Xantia so all three systems may be slightly different.
Will see if I can find the Syn and Xantia Mk2 remote workshop manuals to check this out.
