There is meant to be some play, it should feel a bit like moving it on a spring, when they go wrong, they will normally lock up solid.

Having said that, if you are in that far, the best advice is to replace it, treat the whole thing as a 4 piece clutch, it just is not worth the hassle of having it fail just after doing the clutch.

Regards.
Martin.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the purpose of a dual mass flywheel? In what way do they differ from ye olde types?

Here's an animated description from YouTube.

It doesn't seem to start on its own, click the progress bar just ahead of the indicator to get it going.

Didn't I read somewhere that the way to go was fit a solid flywheel and that Valeo now produced a clutch assembly that was effectifly the clutch and DMF function in one unit?

Sure I read that somewhere.

i think i will replace it as there is no tension at all when i turn it, it doesnt spring back and it also wobbles quite a lot.

thanks for your comments
