Ah! this is another one of those messages which causes confusion.
I believe that this is referring to the FAP filter in the exhaust.
It is saying that the filter needs cleaning i.e the pressure drop across the filter is above limits. The next one is filter blocked and LIMP mode.

You will find the filter in the big large bore bit of the exhaust system.

There are several threads on here about cleaning / disabling the FAP filter. Cleaning and replacing does require a Lexia to reset the ECU.

Probably just needs a good long run at high revs on the motorway.

There is a cleaning/regeneration sequence for them that goes something like:
Warm the engine to proper operating temperature.
Drive at 4,000 revs for 20 minutes. Don't break off or the regeneration will be discontinued.

Not sure if there is anything comes up on the info display when regeneration is active but you will see a lot of smoke from the exhaust.

Well what myglaren says is in part true and would be very true for a car that had just been used for short trips. However I know that you are doing relatively long journeys to and from work each day around the M25 and this should more than meet the conditions required for regeneration. The regeneration phase only burns off the carbon it does not get rid of cerine and ash and it is these which will finally clog the filter, no amount of regeneration will clear this and cleaning or replacing the filter is the only option. Citroen reckon 80K kilometers between filter changes so make your own judgment, just take into acount that if the filter is not cleaned then the next stage will be "filter blocked" and LIMP mode.

as you say, my journey is always a long Mway slog, in that case i think cleaning is the way forward. i will search for a link on here to find out the process. tks.

That could in itself cause it if you aren't reaching the required rpm for long enough, especially as the M25 everytime i have used it is just a big car park...

Have you ever driven the car like you stole it?

MThat would get it well upto temp and then just sit at the 4k rpm on a long empty stretch of road or maybe find a rolling road to use instead :)

unfortunately KP you are correct, i do not recall ever having taken the car above 3k rpm, seriously never. maybe i should 'give it a blast'. an old trick we used on our 2 stroke bikes. maybe in this situation it is again relevent.

Im sure that the engine speed is 3000rpm not 4000, at 3000rpm my C5 auto is doing well over 90, 4000rpm for 20 mins would result in a clean filter but a DIRTY licence
Looking in the LEXIA it says when the FAP was last regenerated (was 600 odd km) and a average distance between regeneratons (886km for my car) I do nothing but drive the car as normal to regenerate, granted I do motor through France at 90+ a lot.
