c5 brake caliper leaking :(

just gone to change all my brakes and noticed the rubber around the drivers side piston is all split, as soon as tried to wind it in got covered in brake fluid :(

is the piston rubber available as a seperate item or is it a new caliper job???

hope its not a major job as off to france sunday so need my car :(

If the fluid is leaking out, then it needs a new piston seal - the gaiter on the outside is just to stop dirt getting in and corroding the piston. Providing the bore or piston are not scored then it's a standard job of fitting a seal kit to the caliper. Should be available at the dealer off the shelf, if not from you local motor factor.

Had a look on the Eurocarparts website and can't locate a seal kit. the new calipers are very expensive!

got a bit of help there got family at eurocarparts and normally get a healthy discount :)

just hoping they have one in stock

might be easier just to change the pair least i know they wont give me any trouble then :)

Worth trying for seals first as long as the pistons and bores are in good condition.

just been and got my nice shiney new caliper :)

seal kit was £18 + VAT

so decided easier to change whole caliper as mine looked worse for wear

£78 all in, cant grumble

also picked up some new link arm bushes and track rod ends, thought while shes in bits may as well change bits not happy with

be back in an hour or so . . . . . hopefuly good news lol

right bled system best i can, still hardly got any brakes at all :(

if you hold the brake pedel down you can feel it losing its pressure, any ideas?

£78 isn't too bad - ECP listed them at £78 + a surcharge of £45, total £123, a high price, I thought (+VAT too IIRC)
