New "hit" of my Xantia

Post by mark_l »

This time when brakes applying.
Do you remember a sound when you slide a wet finger on wet glass?
Something like this i hear when slightly touch the brake pedal.
It comes from under dashboard (brake valve?).
Very slight vibration is feeling.
Brakes seems-no problems.
Any ideas?[?]
Thanks ahead.

Is this while you move the pedal? - in which case the pedal itself needs lubricating - have fun!
If its while the brakes are working - have you done any work on them recently? Could the pads be misaligned? I dont mean put in properly but I had this problem when I had some work done last year and the mechanic broke off the bleed nipple for a front caliper and re-fitted a sound second hand one - terrible noises for about 100 miles then fine and I think the noise was the pad chattering until its wear pattern adjusted.

I have a 1998 Xantia 1.9TD Estate and I sometimes have the same noise.
I have put it down to the spring loaded plastic piston on the brake pedal sliding across the rubber cover of the brake valve. However it could be coming from the spring loaded piston itself as I have not heard it since I replaced the clutch clip a few months ago. This required the spring loaded piston to be removed from the brake pedal so I took it apart to have a look how it work (as you do!).
Anyway the brakes have always worked OK so I do not worry about it.
