Key problem on HDI Xantia

Post by Xantic »

Don't know if anyone else had this problem but over the weekend my Xantia decided it was going to throw up a fault.

Put key in ignition and the key symbol flashes on dashboard and bleeps, Obviously wont start, After a few mins it worked ok, Today i jumped in car to go to work, same thing but also some clicking from i think passenger side behind dash maybe a relay or something, It stopped clicking after i switched off and tried again, THIS TIME IT STARTED .

What worries me is am i going to get stuck. Is there a relay that controils the ignition and immobiliser, Is it an easy fix,
Any ideas anyone.

The ignition barrel is a COMPLETELY conventional mechanical lock with the electrical swtich on the end as per any other Early Xantia....

The Transponder Pick up sensor is an external "Add On" on the side of the barrel behind the Steering colum shroud, which on a S2 car is removable without taking the steering wheel off..

The pick up has a connector a bit further down the colum if you follow the wire from it.. it may need an unplug and re plug...

Other then that, its all I can tell you, a transponder is not a battery, so not sure whats going on..

Ok thnaks for the info so far, I shall have a look when i can but thesae days i am usually away 3 or 4 nights every week. If it starts clicking again maybe i can locate where it is coming from, Perhaps i will lift the bonnet before attempting to start it, that way i might have a chance as it only lasted a few seconds, sounded like a relay clicking like mad.

Cars dont you just love them..

I think i might have found the fault or at least i am hoping.

The positive battery terminal was loose and to be honest the lead is not in the best of condition. Perhaps a new lead will sort it out.

Is the lead a Citroen main dealer part or do the local specialists sell them too.?

I would imagine that the local factors will sell battery leads but it depends on where the damage is.If its just the clamp then these an be replaced again sourced from the local factors

I would not like to guess at the prie from the dealers

Hi Colin
Yes i bet a lottery win would be needed..

A quick look tonight and it is showing signs of corrosion right where the clamp is, A very nice colour green..Maybe a new clamp would do, i shall try and source one on the weekend, failing that a second hand good lead will do, unless i win the lottery in between of course and i will treat her to some new tyres that will be needed shortly.

In the mean time pour some boiling water over the terminal, that will clean some of it off.
