Engine Cam Cover for Xantia 1.8v 1996 auto

a leaking of oil and burning smell from under the bonnet led me to think I needed a new gasket.

Just learnt from Citroen service that the 'engine cam cover' is cracked and
needs replacing. cost £397.50 + vat !! can anyone tell me if I have any
cheaper options .

The car is still in excellent condition and drives beautifully, I don't want to get rid of it. any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Mike

Your best bet is to take a trip to your local scrapyard or breakers, if its more than £15 i will be very surprised, someone here may even have one....

there are two diferent pairs oof ccam covers listed on service citroen

here is trade price and part No's

is only one cover on your car cracked, if so i cant see how they come up with the price they quoted you

Malcolm, checked it out and your prices are correct but my part number is C248D1, and for some reason this is a dearer cam cover at £213 + vat[

ps again i just selectted a diferent engine code and it came up with this,

Yes the chassis number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

I rang another Citroen and the part is C248D1 and costs £250, so Wilsons
wanted £148 to fit it.

silly me i was looking at 16V lumps not 8V, the last price and part No. you postted is correct,

there must be loads of them in breakers,

give PCR of Lancing Sussex a call as they are citro/pug dismantlers, link below
