For the indexed position to work, the mirrors have to have an additional module (will check its part no. later) built into the doors, one for each mirror ... the BSI has to be configured also, that the rear-view mirror indexing is set to on ... when this is available (module + BSI), it should be able to store a custom position when the reverse is engaged (can't say for sure about the link with the drivers seat position) ... the thing is, it seems the later (OPR) cars don't have this option available at all ... hence, the newer car manuals don't even mention this function ... I have maybe 5-6 different versions and revisions of the car manual, and only the earliest manual has the indexed mirrors noted (just for the reverse though) ...

For what it's worth, the mirrors on my C6 supposedly adjust to a different determined position when I select reverse (as long as the switch is pushed to left or right, as mentioned earlier in the thread); but in reality they march to their own beat, and aren't about to take direction from a fey englishman. Unless I leave the button in the middle, they could be pointing anywhere. I just respect their independence and get on with it.

Hi all, I have finally got a DiagBox up and running on an old laptop, so I connected it to my car and had a look around, good news no faults that could not be explained, tyre pressures (wheels not in right position) and a few others of a similar ilk.
So I looked at the indexing mirror, to see if it is a reset issue, NOPE, I received a message that cars after RPE 12047 no longer had this feature!! :taz:

Now the question is can it be retro fitted, ie a control pack from an earlier vehicle? - any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I have Memory Seats x2 positions and retract full back on door opening, both mirrors to to new positions when I press the seat memory buttons.......I use this to bring me up high from my driving position and reposition the mirrors if I have a difficult/tight space to back into....mirrors fold on lock or on the center position of the mirror switch.

Stickyfinger, what RPO number is yours, Mine is 12482 - only seat moves via memory buttons.

Note, I have read somewhere that some cars the steering wheel moves as well, now that is novel!!

In theory, yes ... but, you'd need to remove the door card, and then see what you actually have from the wiring available ... what would definitely be missing in your case would be the control box, somewhere near the mirror on the door ... from it some wiring must be going to the mirror motor, and some to the BSI ... following the schematics, and probably some telecoding, it could work ... and, supposedly the indexing feature mirror motors are different form regular ones (at least the part no is, I'm guessing some extra wire inputs, but doesn't make sense, since the regular ones are regulated from the BSI)

RPO No 11678

Mirrors & Seats certainly move when I press either No1 or No2 button on the door card

The same part, 6490 C5, is fitted to my car and on the earlier 143 Bhp models ( I have not checked other models yet), as everything else works as it should the wiring must be there, so what is telecoding" is it something that can be carried out with the Diagbox (lexia)?

thanks in advance

Well, I got the Diagbox out today and changed the setting " Indexing mirror when reverse s selected" from No to Yes and it still does not work. According to the Service Box, unless I am looking in the wrong place, early Mk3's have the same window controller "Part number 6490 C5, Description 01 - ELECTRONIC UNIT - AMBIENT LIGHTING, 01- MEMORY CTRL DRIVERS FRONT SEAT" So there must be something else in the system that makes the memory work Like the motor " Part number 6602 45, 01 - VIEW MIRROR MOTOR- ELECTRICMEMORY FOLDING EXT REAR VIEW MIRROR or Part number 6602 46 01 - EXT MIRROR ELECTRIC-FOLD BACK

any ideas?

Hi there,

Mine is a 2007 C5 petrol, only the left door mirror will automatically tilt down when reverse. I don't have to do anything, it just does it automatically. No setting at all.
