Injectors leaking - they burn the sealing washers away, I've had mine replaced twice (at no cost as he was mucking around with other stuff at the same time). I had what looked like lumps of coal on the cylinder head and could hear it 'chuffing'.

You should be OK running the car for a while but eventually you will burn a channel in the injector seat.

You could do this yourself and a bit of a search will reveal the methods to be employed. Be very careful with them, the tips are very delicate.

Once removed you need to clean the seat thoroughly without getting any debris into the cylinder. Then replace the fire shields and the copper sealing washers.

Have a read through this thread from the Honest John forum. Sometimes - most times, the injectors come out easily enough but when they don't...

The 2.2L HDi is perceived to be the worst engine for this.

If you damage the injectors they are ±£250 each and need to be calibrated into the engine so if you are unsure of your capabilities in this department I would pass it over to someone with the suitable skills and experience - not a dealer!
A local diesel specialist would be a reasonable choice but have them quote you for it in case the prices run away with you once the job is underway.

I spoke to a diesel engine specialist, -- i have it booked in for inspection,
They indicated that it is a common problem, but did indicate that these engines have 2 injector manufactures - bosch which are repairable and siemens which are not !!!

1100 to fit new seals, did you have the injectors serviced at the same time??
I did the injector seal and fire shields on my 2.2HDi and the parts only came to a few quid, for that price you could have had new injectors.
