Citroen Xantia Radio problem

Post by gordons »

I have recently purchased a 1998 Citroen Xantia fitted with a 4035 RDS Audio System which has a problem as follows:

1. The radio will ONLY work if the on/off and the BND buttons are depressed simultaneously, it will NOT work using the on/off button alone
2. When working stations change ok and volume controls are fine but the radio emits a constant beeping sound
3. After running for only a few minutes the radio switches itself off.

Any advice on solving this problem would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're in need of a radio code :(
Might be worth sifting through the documentation for a 4 digit code, sometimes the code can also be written on the radio unit itself if pulled out.

I would point you in the direction of 'Old Guy's Xantia Pages' as he has some radio code calculators on there. Unfortunately, being a Clarion its not possible to get the code from the serial number. If you're good at soldering you can get the code by reading a tiny surface mounted chip or alternatively by ringing the main dealer who should be able to get it providing its the original fit radio and not from another Xantia.

I know there are a (few) Clarion you can get it from the serial (some 306 ones I used to be able to do in my head) , although I doubt very much this is the same 'type' as red_dwarfers has said...

Xantia Clarion radios DO NOT decode from the Serial!

The Chip needs reading... If gordons is getting a radio Station, then the code has to have already been put in, because the radio simply does not work before its put in..

Id say its a duff radio, and replacment is neccery...

I'd agree it can't be done via the serial.

But, a lot of them do have a testmode. In this they work for up to an hour, no code is needed and nothing is 'saved' (stations etc) afterwards...

Its typically activated by holding down a couple of buttons for a few seconds.

I was lucky, I pulled out the radio and the code was written in marker pen on the top...
