Xantia rear caliper pad retaining bolt sheared

Post by Gaskin »

I'm trying to free off my rear calipers & pads which have seized. I got the nut off the inner end of the pad retaining bolt and then managed to shear the head off flush with the caliper at the other end.

Should it just slide out if I can hit it hard enough with a punch, or is it threaded into the caliper halves?

Any advice or suggestions?

Cheers

Duncan

yes it should just drift out as it is not threaded into the calliper,

That's what I thought......I'll just have to hit it harder!

I may cut the bolt and deal with each bit separately. I guess its a trip to the dealers tomorrow then.

Thanks

When I did the rusty calipers on my first Xantia the pad bolt was well stuck. With the caliper removed, I had to saw the bolt off flush with the caliper, heat it up, then drift it out. New bolt is not dear from the dealers, but it's not really doing any work, so you can just fit them back on with a threaded bar or something to hold the pads in place. Of course, you might need to remove the caliper retiaing bolts, and that is another whole world of pain potential...
