Mk2 Xantia remote no longer working

Post by Xaccers »

Got back to Juliet at the trainstation last night and her remote wasn't working.
I've placed the battery just in case the button was being pressed in my pocket (I doubt this though as the rubber is worn practically flat) and still no joy.
Any ideas?
Why didn't Citroen fit a LED to the radio remotes!

They could have lost "Touch" with each other, they need a re-sink possibly.

Try key in the ignition, switch onto I think second position so ALL the dash lights are on and press the LOCK button on the key a few times, immediatly..

Try that.. I did this succesfully on a Xsara with RF remote..

if they have lost touch with each other Xac will be getting the yellow key light on the dash lighting up.

try bending the contact inside the keyfob outward a bit they can become compressed over time so that the batteries dont contact properly., I put tin foil between my batteries because I couldnt get to the contacts.

Thanks Paul that did the trick.

No key light on the dashboard Nigel, only the usual flashing airbag one reminding me to fit deans connectors under my seat :)

Will try the contacts on my second key which has never worked (annoying as it has practically brand new rubber over the buttons).

What's holding the circuit board in them? On the old IR ones (which I much prefer) you clould slip the boards out dead easily, but not the two radio ones I have.

They DO come out easilly Xac

They have a tiny Plastic Pin poking into the board to hold it in place..

Lift the side of the buttons slightly and carefully while pulling it out..

BE WARNED: The RF buttons are Surface Mounted switches, not soldered legs through the board.

They do come adrift easyilly becasue theres no support behind the switches...

You can extreamilly carefully solder the switches back onto the board, but you need a very thin tip, and a steady hand!!

I have done a couple succesfully now

thats odd my S2 flashes a yellow key up on the dash to tell me if the key has lost its link with the car. odd. the solution is the same as Pauls though.

next question:
would i be right in thinking that if the board from another car's key was fitted then it could not be linked to the car using the same method?

RF remote may lost its sync, but the key is another thing. That means that you cant unlock the car using the remote, but you can start the engine with the key. If so the yellow light should be off.

I had the same problem. After i fixed the conectors under both seats the light remained flashing. Finally i discovered that i had a problem with the rotary connector behind the steering wheel. (the one that connects airbag and radio controls)

The Circuit board ONLY operates the Locking/unlocking and deadlocks..

The Key can be removed from the PLIP and used to start the car as the Transponder chip is in the plastic part that swivels in the house.

In a word though, Xac, no you cannot just put another board in and sync it, it needs programming - hence normally you have a Key Code card in the wallets with documentation...

When you sync the keys of a set already matched, it checks the locking ECU code and if matches re sync's them.

(I Think!)

That is exact.
In a lexia session, it asks for the 4 digit pin. Then how many keys you want to program and how many remotes. So the key and the remote are 2 different things. You kan have a remote control with key that opens the car and swiitch on the engine, or only opens the locks and not the engine and vice versa
