Theres little change between S1 and S2, the same style, except a bit more curved. Obviously the glove box changed, but the dash "ergonomics" remained the same, same style, just altered in apperance.
The only difference with the blower slider is the non air con models had a 5 position switch, and Air Con models had a varible slider as the Air Con ECU controlled the speed of the fan depending on the Temperture sensor to the left of the clock behind the small grill...
Even S1 radios fit directly in to the S2 dash, but the steering controls dont work then..
So yes, a Series 2 car, better refined, better built (I think), and to a point better looking..
Same weakness's though, that being heater matrix, which still entails a dash out!

Yes my mark 2 '99 activa has that dashboard layout with those AC switches and so on, but a tape head unit with a CD changer in the boot which is fine by me as I use a 3.5mm headphone socket to tape adaptor with my mp3 player for music.
I get the feeling my heater matrix needs changing too as there's a distinct smell of coolant whenever the heaters are on. If I slide the temperature to cold, then go to warm again after a few minutes, it smells really strongly. But I'm not losing coolant as far as I can see so maybe its already been changed (especially seeing as it looks like the dash has already been out at some point, certain screws in the wrong places, and the AC button was upside down), but someone didnt clean out the coolant from the matrix holder?
