Xantia V6 Problems

Post by DHallworth »

My parents went to go out in our Xantia V6 today.

Last the time car was running was a few days ago and everything was fine, not down on power, no missing, was puuuuurfect.

When started today it revved itself to 3000rpm and wouldn't come below. If you revved it the revs moved up freely but it refused to come below 3000rpm.

My dad stopped the engine, left it for a minute or two and now it won't start. It's turning no problem, not sluggish or anything but just refuses to start.

I've not been home from work yet so haven't had a look and haven't Lexia'd it to see if anything shows up and wondered if any of you guys could suggest anything obvious to look for.

I'd check for an inlet manifold air leak beyond the throttle body, check the rubber blanking plugs on the back of the manifold.

Check that the throttle cable has not jumped partly off the wheel.
Otherwise it might be a faulty idle valve

Meant to update this but haven't had time.

I started the car on Saturday morning and it was running fine.

Left it to warm up, no problems, was running perfectly.

The only thing I've noticed is that it can take an awful amount of turning over on the starter for it to start once it's warm.

Will keep everyone posted.
