Is the water pump below the alternator?

Post by thintin »

Hi.

I have an R reg Xantia 2.1td which recently threw the auxillery drive belt. Upon inspection I found that one of the pullies had seized. I did get some warning which I didn't act quick enough on, the rattle of a failing bearing.

What I need to confirm is the identity of the seized part. It has large hoses going into the rear of the housing which would suggest it was the water pump but pictures of water pumps I've seen on line don't look the same. The part is situated directly below the alternator at the bottom of the engine and has lots of finnials around the pully wheel.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Thanks, Phil.

Its the Air Con compressor!

Water pump in internal, and driven by the Cam belt..

Siezing Air Con compressor pullys seem to crop up now and again!

Thanks Paul, I'll get on ebay and look for a replacement. Will I need to drain and then recharge the air con to replace it?

If your air conditioning works (not that it will now with the belt missing) then yes you will need to empty the system.

Unless it is possible to just change the bearing?

Theres two types of connections !

Theres one sort that has TWO individual pipe connection just like older R12 systems, the theres a connection that has a SINGLE bolt through the centre of a plate..

It varies what is fitted to what.. but if you change from one type to the other you will need the assosiated pipes aswell..

I copied this chart where air condition compressors are given for Xantia models.
Mine has SD7V16 which is SANDEN.
It seems that 2.1TD has DELPHI
and also note that there is a remark: XUD All Types (Except 2.1 TD) :?

Well, I know a DW10 HDi 110bhp system - complete - fits onto an XUD, as I have done it...

Differences I guess will be pully size, and pipe out let connections as I put above, other then that, condensers and evaporators are the same in all Xantia setups..

In that case then that's what that table is saying. If you fitted a HDi compressor onto an XUD11 then the table would be lying

Thanks for the help people. I will try and search by part name rather than vehicle. Fingers crossed.
