Bad Roads

Hi,
I've been commuting into Lincoln this week and noticed that the roads seem to be really bad with pot holes and getting worse (A607). I'm really pleased that my Xantia is now running properly as the suspension seems to soak up the bumps much better than the Modus. One question I have though am I likely to have to change the spheres more quickly or more likely to have other suspension problems as well in the future?

The roads get worse and worse

I don't think it'll have any detrimental effect on sphere life or any other suspension component for that matter. Wheels and tyres are the most likely to suffer early wear and potential damage.

Drop links may not live quite so long but they're easy and cheap enough to replace...

I sure my C5s eats through drop links because of the state of the roads in this town. Im glad i dont drive a supermini as id probably lose it down one of the potholes! Ive got another on its way out at the moment. I do find genuine Citroen drop links last longer than aftermarket ones though.

I had an interesting conversation with a works guy. I told him about a pot hole which is breaking up after being patched 4 time recently. I mentioned that it had never been sealed when patched and he told me.

"they wont do that because if they do, they will do themselves out of a job".

Nice to know that the tax is spent frugally.

Drop links get hammered by pot holes! And wear quickly with them, try going around the holes and not over them!

I live on a rough road and am forever putting drop links on!

I do avoid as many as i can, but sometimes there are more potholes than road and without driving like a drunk i cant avoid them all

try to avoid pot holes in the nearside of the road esspecially in your xantia it damages the NSR radius arm bearings.

they now use 20% waste veg oil in the mix for filling /patching potholes,

I reckon that this is prone to freezing at very low temperatures making the pothole reappear very quickly, I recently watched whilst the patcher patched two potholes and they did not pre-heat the potholes before filling them in, surely this would create some serious bonding issues.
