HDi non start

Post by jonnydrumm1967 »

Hello,

In the recent really cold weather my Xantia has really struggled to start and if the battery has enough power to keep cranking it till it fires,it fires with loads of smoke! I think the glow plugs aren't working at all but I did read somewhere that they're fired by a coolant temp sensor when its below about 0 deg C..

Are they bad to change? Or are they better for access than in a late XUD ?

Thanks.

I think my glow plugs are ready for changing also however it starts straight away although runs a little rough for the 1st minute or so. When it gets really cold (below zero) the glowplug light will light up for a little longer than normal.
Could the problem be the fuel filter?

Well I must admit it's long overdue a fuel filter change

The glowplug light does stay on longer when its really cold.

Heater plugs on the HDi's are not really used, and dont operate in this country very often...

However, it has been cold, and prehaps are needed.. I think the plugs are in a similar area to the XUD plugs, but not as hard to get at..

Failed heater plugs in the UK would not come to light untill very cold weather do to not needing them often..

I cant recall off the top of my head how easy they are to get too..

Get the filter changed....... and let me know how difficult the glowplugs are to change if you change them.
