c5 hdi eco mod flashes up on display??

Post by mrlogik »

Hi all ive been having a lack of torque and hp problem of late witch can be a little annoying,i can switch car on and briefly the display flashes up eco mod for about 2 seconds and man its as flat as a witches cleavage area.
No lamp illuminates on dash to say theres a problem and if i switch the car off and back on again it will sometimes forget the problem and return to full power, a quick search of this forum drew a blank has anyone but lucky me found this problem? C5 hdi 2001 110 with 103,000.

Does it flash up eco-mode every time you start up ?
I would'nt think eco-mode is anything to do with your running fault, eco mode is a power saving feature that turns off unnecessary electrical consumers when the engine is not running.

That fault sounds simmilar to one I had on a Xantia HDi - in that the electro valve that controlled the wastegate vacuum was not working, so the turbo over boosts, and the ecu detected it, and shut the engine into Eco limp home mode, however, switching the engine off and back on again would clear it again, untill it over boost again..

I swapped the electro valve that was connected to the turbo (Small vaccum pipe) and been fine since.. unfortunally i cant tell you any more then that with the C5 as Ive not had much experiance with them just yet, only the engines as fitted in the Xantia

Eco-mode & limp home mode are not to be confused. They are both completely different things.
Eco-mode saves electrical power & limp home mode limits engine speed to protect the engine.
