Seems there are many more S1/1.5 2.1TDs with a manual box and air con.

As i said above, i dont ever remember seeing a S2 2.1TD manual with ac.

My first S1 SD had aircon but I have never had another one with it, but if the weather ever gets hot enough to need it in this country I shall delight in driving with my windows open :D

Aircon is a load of crap in this country - IF we were in Spain then possibly
yes, it'd be essential. I can't think of many cars I've seen/owned or been
in that aren't brand new where the aircon even works or made any
impression. Why I prefer sunroofs and opening windows. But who wants
to entomb themselves with all the windows shut in their sunroofless car
when the sun makes a temporary appearance in this country for the AC
to get it's act together?

Hardly an essential requirement whereas a sunroof for me is!

I cant agree andrew, sorry

I love ac, to be on a long drive in the heat with the AC on is much nicer than melting in the heat, even with the windows or roof open still isnt cool, its just noisey.

Every car ive had with AC has worked fine. Even on humid days, or cold days it works nicely. It filters out the damp in the air and appears to make the cabin air nice and fresh.

I also find with our two dogs, that having them in the car on a journey in the summer is to warm for them.

I never have my AC off in the summer, brilliant invention in my opinion. I wont buy a daily car without it now.

However i do very much like sunroofs on cars, ideally id have both on a car. Sunroofs are very nice on spring days, just to waft along with the wind in your hair!

What. And having the fan blower desperately dragging this chilled air
into the cabin to cool down the furnace trapped inside the closed
windows isn't noisy too?

I think it depends on your metabolism, I'm cold all the time, only comortable if its above 25C, my wife on the other hand gets far to hot in the car if I have the heater on full, which I invariably do for the first 20 miles or so.

The best solution we have so far is the SX hatch, that has seperate controls for each side of the car, but the problem is, if we are going far we take the dog and she won't fit in the hatch .. and she feels the heat as well - I can't win :(

Peter, that's a very valid point. I'm the opposite, just about and need copious quantities of cool, fresh air and wide-open spaces to be comfortable. I need to be outdoors as often as possible... Anything above 20 degrees is just too hot.

Another issue with me is claustrophobia. A sunroof relieves this perfectly for me.

I suspect you're the same Andrew, apart from the claustrophobia..

For us fresh-air types, a sunroof is perfect :D

(even if they do leak and are a pain to repair....)

Sadly, the only car I had with a working sunroof was the green one that my wife wrote off :( but it doesn't get hot that often :D and its very noisy with the roof open :(

Well I'm very like Peter in the fact my circulation isn't brilliant so I have
always had cold feet so at the very least any car I have has some warmth
directed into the footwell although the blower isn't necessary unless it really
is damned cold. Thing is, I love fresh air in my face and most systems are
hopeless at offering this AND warm air so the sunroof in essential.

I too now realise that I don't feel very comfortable in my mind when driving
in a car for any long period/distance if it doesn't have a sunroof, even if
closed but with the blind opened so I guess this must be a case of mild
claustrophobia even though I'd not realised it from other circumstances
before. I wasn't a blubbering wreck years back stuck alone in a lift for
over 2 hours!

I believe the key here is the duration of the journey and shorter journeys
aren't so critical. Mind, any time of the day/night the minute I get in one of
my cars with a sunroof I'll have it tilted up and the back pair of windows
chinked open 5mm.

Andrew

Peter dare i suggest a C5!? Ours all have dual zone climate control, just like the XM SX but with air con.

I like the sunroofs on the Xms, though i dont often have it fully open, mainly just the back popped up to get some airflow through. The front windows on Xms are great, you can have them open and since they have another window infront of the opening one (quatre light) it stops any bad drafts and a lot of the noise.

I vary, in the winter i like it to be nice and warm in the car, usually have it set to around 25/6 degrees. Though in the summer i like to have the car cool inside, so i usually have the ac set to 16-18 during summer months. I rarely use the windows on the C5, only if im folding in a mirror!

Jim, i bet you like the roof on Robyns 206, that is a huge sunroof for a small car, looks good too.

No, you dare not :D I want something I can repair. The SX is brilliant, you can have hot air on your feet and cool in your face from the vent on the other side.

:) I didnt think you would be persuaded

The Xm SX heating is a good idea, i dont know why they didnt stick t it with the VSX. The auto temp/fan on the VSX is good, but i think i prefer the SXs system.

IMO the GS had a superlative ventilation system although no aircon or sunroof on mine.

I liked having the sunroof in the Xantia and the Accord but all in all prefer the aircon in the C5, although I would have liked the option of hot air to the feet and cold air to the face.
