Can I bore you with ...Xantia Blower fan problems!

Yes I have read, I believe: all, or most of previous posts but it's
confusing!

I own a Xantia 1999 1.9 TD Estate, some post say the fix insert a relay at the ignition is only for models before 89!

Another post states some thing about the relay at brake pedal
to pull it with fan on full ignition on ..

I am a bit worried that if I pull some relay with ignition on I destroy some thing else, Is there a diagram for models like mine,

I have photos to upload if needed! the (relays)

the service-manual I found here, in some post was, as it appears to me, for older models!

I know this is topic soooo old, and you guys are probably past this!

Removing a relay will not destroy anything in my opinion.

Your car is a 1999, so it will already have the Relay mod to the ignition switch, so you can rule that one out.

have you checked the connections to the blower itself under the glove box.. you'll need to remove the trim that hides it though..

Re relays relays relays

Post by azor »

Thanks, for your help

Yep, I checked the wires, the brown square plug gave me 5-6 V
in between the red and black. too low!

Was a bit confused regarding the relay mod if it was what I needed
this is now how I understand it!

pre 98 MK1 = the relay fix on the Ign can be done. not factory installed
after 99 MK2 = relay is sometimes installed fr factory high-end models!

this is my car relays:

CitroJim said that it may be the one on the left, on its own.

I will now try this tomorrow take it out and have it tested

If fitted I think it's the left hand green one in your pic - it's 35amp - the only one of that rating there. One my 2001 HDi, I lost the feed to this relay for reasons unknown - I ran in a new feed from the ignition switch and all was OK since (about 2 years ago...) If the car has a factory fitted relay, then if you look at the wires coming from the ignition switch under the steering column, you will see the red wires going to the brown connector, and should see that the wires on one side are thinner than the other.

Here's the circuits of the MK2 with the relay (item 8048)

Circuit

Harnesses

Locations

See how the relay 8048 is shown out on its own in the Locations diagram. Going on your relay picture Roland, it looks like yours has the relay. The one with the black clips around it.

Pull it out and have a look at its connectors. You can substitute another for a test.

Hope those diagrams help a little.
