New Joiner

Post by xantia76 »

HI To all...

I have been looking over the forum for several months as I have owned several Xantia Exclusives.. In fact One which I really wanted to buy but didnt have the funds at the time I THINK is owned by Citro V6 ( The Black V6 Xantia with cream interior ) it was on ebay about 18 months ago if its the one..

Also My last Xantia V6 appears to be on here owned by Toby Sid the Squid..

I have also just purchased the Activa off XantiaMan previously owned by Citro JIm.. Cant wait to get that!!!

I started by luck owning my first xantia 2.0 16v mk2 exclusive because I was stuck for a car and it was £500 however I fell in love with it and have owen citroens since then ( 4 years ago ) ... I then purchased a low milage mk2 V6 ( it was mint ) had I know then what I know now I would never have sold it as it was like new... Then I had a HDI exclusive which was a cracker and nice engine/great MPG.. However my lust for the V6 appeared again when I saw a Green with Cream leather 99 model for sale ( now owned by sid the squid ) I replaced all spheres and had suspension set-up properly with LHM flush and renew and NEVER have I experienced such a great handling car. I then got curous about the V6 c5 exclusive SE model so sold the xantia and purchased one which Is what I am still driving today and its not bad..

They guy who looks after my cars i Citroen though and through but could never use a PC let alone the net!! He actualy worked for Citoren UK 20 or so years ago training the mechanics in the training school.. He's proper OLD SKOOL citroen and you will all understand when I say I would much rather someone like him look after my car than a main citroen dealer!!

SO thats me ..my name is Brett and this is a great site but I dont get alot of time to get on it and read because of my job and a young growing family!!

Hey Brett welcome to the FCF, glad you finally showed up :), and that you have purchased XantiaMans awesome Activa, you'll not regret that!

A little OT but I feel it must be said, get a new mechanic, honestly m8 there were loads of little things wrong with the V6 when I got her, which if this guy is really all you say he would have 1) noticed, 2) at least told you about if not fixed.
Most relatively minor things like the throttle cable was way out of correct adjustment, the heater matrix was leaking, the cooling header tank is split, the headlight washer relay is the wrong one, and the ECU full of fault codes, oh and the little squeak from the aux belt area, turned out to be the dual mass crank pulley breaking up, would have caused a very nasty accident if I had not changed it when I did.

Please don't misunderstand my intentions here, I'm not having a go at you, far from it, I'm still very pleased with the car, but I have very serious doubts of the competency of your mechanic. I realize how freaking hard it can be to find a decent Citroen mechanic, hence why most of us on here all help each other out with mechanics work, especially the legendary CitroJim, who is one of the best mechanics I have encountered even though its his hobby not job.

HEy TOby,

Thanks for your reply about the mechanic It is MUCH appreciated. I asked several times about that squeek from the aux belt area aswell!!! Could of caused me to have accident too..

I was starting to get suspicious about the service I was getting from there because although the guy is good and knowlegable he is also getting on a bit and appears not to be doing the mechanicas side of things but just advising the other mechanics if they dont know what to do as its his business but was biult on his reputation ( now hes not doing the work but still there part time )..

DO you or anyone know a good and trusted citroen specialist in berkshire area / thames valley home counties? I cant let the activa go there!!!

If your prepared to get your hands dirty, I would have a word with CitroJim if he's not to busy, who may well be able to give you much guidance when it comes to Xantias, he is the 'go-to guy' for a lot of us here, hes a fantastic bloke, very knowledgeable and helpful, he really cares about his cars.

Garage wise, when I don't have the time to do stuff or have to rush things I go to B&L Autos in Welwyn Garden City, there's a few mechanics there, father and son run business, they love Citroens, and are famous for their care of SM's and RHD Xantia V6 Activa conversions!

Here is their web site. http://www.blautos.co.uk/
Pop up one Saturday and have a chat with them, their really friendly guys, who are always happy to talk Citroen.

Hi Brett, and a very warm welcome to you.

This is a very unique forum. I've been involved with car forums for many years, and i've never met such decent, genuine and enthusiastic people before, until i came here.

DickieG on this forum is quite close to you, very nice chap so if you have any problems with your cars, he is your best bet.

I'm very pleased my car is going to a good home. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with it, a totatlly different beast to a V6 :D

Just need to organise delivery :) Will be getting a good clean and coat of polish before it goes any where!

Hi Brett and welcome :D Delighted to hear you have my Activa :D :D

If you have a read of my blog (all fifty pages of it), you'll learn some history of your car

It was a bit of a scruffbag when I first got hold of it but between Gareth and I, you'd never know now!

You'll find an Activa a bit different after a V6, that's for sure but as you can se I have one of each and like them both for different reasons..

Enjoy the car and any snags at all, we're here. Have a look at the dedicated Activa forum here, some useful stuff in there.

Just picked up my new rear ram this afternoon from the Stealers. I now know why they cost so much.....

I presume you give them an Activa and a V6 engine and gearbox and get it back as a V6 Activa?

Quite tempting that I must say!

Welcome to the forum Brett!

Good to see we are now getting a good selection of the rarer Xantias between the dedicated FCF lot :D

I'm another that got into Citroen ownership a little by accident, it all started at a job interview

Possibly, I think it works out better if you give them two cars, an Activa, and a 406 V6 manual, then you get back a v6 Activa and a 406 shell, don't take this as 100% fact best to have a chat with them if your serious, I believe so far they have converted about 5 or 6 Activa's and a few other Xantias to V6's.
