Xsara Sump Plug Crush Washer

Post by Langers »

Can anyone tell me what the specifications for the crush washer on the sump plug are? Diameter? Also, what torque should the plug be fastened to? My mechanic is a bit dodgy, I took the car in for an oil change and I am pretty certain he reused the old oil filter, so I have decided to do my own work from now on.
Thanks in advance.

The sump plug is 14mm. Use a new crush washer tightened to 15 lbs. To use the old one you run the risk of stripping the thread on the sump. Pity Citroen didn't think to put the Xantia's access trap in the lower engine cover. It's a real bind having to remove it to empty the sump.
I've just noticed you have a petrol engine - I was talking HDI - but probably the same size.

Thanks for the help. Should I just go to the local auto parts store and look for 14mm crush washers?

If you are passing a Citroen dealer pop in and see him.
He will sell you the perfect washer for a few pence so I remember.

Decided to treat both BX and ZX diesels to new ones the other day - nice and shiny new washers from Andyspares 15 pence each + VAT of course.
Now just got to get the oil and the filter!

My last A/S invoice shows 3 sump washers - 75p + VAT. But they're a good buy in the Calais hypermarkets at a pack of five for around a quid.

Thanks for the help everyone.
Just while I'm on the topic of specifications, what is the specified torque for the wheel nuts on the Xsasa 1? Would the figure be any different for aftermarket wheels?

If you re-use a copper washer don't forget to anneal it first

Torque for wheel nuts - 65lbs/ft sounds about right. 70lbs if they're alloys.
