Is my car hydra-active or not?

Post by mitchy »

Hi all,
I know this may be a really simple question however I'm a little confused. I have a 1999 Xantia 2.0 HDi that I'm chuffed to bits with. I've had a xantia before and so know a limited amount about xantias.

So anyway, I bougth the above car and the front suspension was bouncy, so replaced the front spheres. This improved the ride, but it's still no where near as good as my old xantia.

I asked the guy from GSF (when buying the spheres) if it was a hydra-active or not purely out of curiosity and he said it WAS and that the spheres were different. I've also read in one of these forums that the ride can be harder if you put the hydra-active spheres on the non hydra-active car.

So my question is firstly, how do I know if my car is hydra-active or not? Secondly can I check my spheres to make sure I have the right ones? And Thirdly is there anything else that could make the suspension harder that it should. I know that I need to change the rear spheres and will probably do the anti sink and accumlator (it's ticking more than it should) at the same time in the near future so I want to get it right.

Thanks
Ollie

There is one dead sure indicator on HA cars :
The diameter on the front suspension cylinder piping - immediately seen each side in the engine bay.
If these pipes are about a fingers thickness, you have got HA suspension.

If however the piping is just at thin steel line, you have definately NOT got the HA suspension.

If you have a suspension toggle switch, it's HA, and was only fitted to SX and Exclusive trim levels AFAIK.

On mine, it's to the right of the steering wheel, next to the alarm sensor defeat switch.

NOPE

Not on SX cars.

It was only fitted to VSX cars on S1 range, and Exclusive models in S2 range.

It was also on Activa models and V6 models..

Hydroactive is only fitted to VSX, Activa and Exclusive trim levels.
SX and below are never hydroactive,

Yes, yes! So what else would a series 1 VSX be? An exclusive...?

When was the last time anyone even mentioned Athena in the
same sentence as Xantia? (don't answer that!!)
