Private reg, opinions?

Post by Citroenmad »

Ok not Citroen related but its possibly for a Citroen and i want some advice as i cant decide.

When i bought my Seat 3 years ago it came with a private reg: L9MPG. I had become used to the reg and everyone knew it was my car (sometimes thats not a good thing!). So when i sold that car i retained the reg on retention, which is around £100. I didnt put it on the 52 reg C5, but when i got the 206 i put my private reg on there.

Now im selling the Peugeot and im not sure what to do with my reg. My options are:

- Sell the Peugeot with the reg on
- Put the reg on retention and keep it for later or sell the reg (worth around £400-£500)
- Transfer the reg onto my new C5.

Thing is i really need to get the 206 advertised but im not sure if the reg is going with it or if i should keep it. Its a lot of hassle, £80 to swap to the C5 or £100 for retention. Ill have to send the 206s logbook away which will delay its sale too.

Though i do quite like the reg and everyone i know knows its my car. Though ive gotten into a habbit of swapping cars and it makes it harder if the car has a private reg. Though i should really keep this one a while.

The reg doesnt mean anything to me, which is why im having second thoughts about swapping onto my cars. Though people do know it as mine and ive had a lot of comments about it since ive had it. Less than 9 Miles Per Gallon most people say  Which is sometimes true with my driving

What does anyone think, do you like private registrations?

I know its up to me but it might help me decide

Chris.

Good idea, actually, if i get it put back on retention and sell it, that might be the best idea. Though do registrations actually sell, or would i just be stuck with it on a bit of paper :?

Ive got loads of spheres and ive got a PS3 and an Xbox, not really fussed about an iphone. Though the first thought which did pop into my head was put it towards a Xantia Activa fund :)

Would an activa fund be for maintaining an activa or buying one?
Or you could buy a Lexia and be really cool.

Haha, its just a thought but it would be for maintaining it, though maintaining the C5 could do with a fund at the moment, there is certainly something to be said for running less complicated cars

I dont think ill leave it on the car, seems a bit silly giving it away when i sell the car. Might as well keep it to put on the C5 or keep it and sell it.

Though keep or sell :?

I think what ill do is get it held on retention and look into selling it. Ive asked for an exaluation from some websites, so ill see what comes back.

Im the meantime anyone want a 206 HDi?
Or an Xm 2.0 hatch or a low mileage Xm estate?

A thinning out is in order .... before i can even consider activa ownership.

I want a reg on my car - and I have seen it too, and its not expansive.. however when I mean personalised, I mean personal, as in name initials..

Anyway, unless the MPG means anything else then Mile Per Gallon, 9 MPG is not a lot  so personally, Id sell it, and buy another Xantia with the cash   :D

I've had my reg up for sale for ages with no takers and that's with a V6 prefix. I don't think the market is as lucrative as it used to be in these financially strained times.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

No it means nothing at all to me, ive thought about getting my initials on a private reg instead of this one. Though im not really a fan of initials of reg plates. Plus i always get laughed at at work for my initials, which mean something in text speak - CBA!

I do wonder how well it would sell though, id probably be stuck with it having spent £100 getting it put on retention.

I do like the idea of a Xantia though, id love a very early two spoke steering wheel version with the chevrons on the bonnet, a activa or an exclusive. Obviously i wouldnt get much for the price of a number plate but i would like on anyway, just we have no more room for the moment.

Yea early ones SEEM to be the better ones.. Ive a non air bag two spoke steering one, BUT she HAS got anti sink, L reg, were as my last L reg 1993 one, with NO Air bag, WAS A Sinker..

Ive found both these early models ran too 200k easy, but this one I have now has just pased 220k, and with the current cold weather feels as strong as ever!

I have found though, once I cleaned the leakey rocker cover gasket oil off the block and head that sometime around 170k or prehaps earlyer, shes had the head done and replaced gasket with a laminated one... which do not go again unlike older style gaskets.. hence my girls good milage

I would only be bothered about a reg number if it had a significant relevance. I have 2 , one that I concocted for my Evo from the DVLA website , which although I thought was quite good I didn't think it would ever be worth much more than I paid for it until someone offered me £2500 for it !! I declined ! The other is my late Fathers plate which I will never sell.
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(
