Upgrading the 90BHP HDI to 110BHP HDI (Xantia)

Post by AshJam »

Hey guys,

Just wondered if anyone could answer a few questions for me on this subject please?

I have the 90BHP, if I wanted to up it to the 110BHP would it be as simple as adding the intercooler? Or would I need the ECU from a 110 and/or the gearbox (if the gearbox is any different)? What would the consequences be if I didn't?

The reason I ask is that the body and Engine on my Xantia are both fine and I wouldn't want to take on a different car. Although the 90BHP is nippy enough (for me atleast anyway!), who wouldn't want more power!?

Cheers!

Easiest way is to add a tuning box or go for a remap. An Inter cooler can be retro-fitted and this is a mod usually done with the Pug 306 fraternity.

There is already another thread on this very topic.

The upshot is that you can chip a 90 to get 110 bhp but rather a lot of components are different between the 90 and 110, e.g. turbo, no intercooler, gearbox, clutch, brakes etc.

howiedean - Thanks for that info! I can get a tuning chip from my local Citroen Centre for about £400 (fitted and including VAT) which would put it up to around 115 break but I thought that if the 110 was a lot nicer to drive I'd start there and eventually chip that...

Kowalski - Thanks for the link! In my haste I forgot to use the search button!

Gearing is lower, gearbox is much nicer, hydraulic clutch instead of calbe, cable gear change too instead of linkages, different flywheel, different type of clutch, different turbo, different intercooler..

The basic gubbins of the engine though ie: fuel system and injectors etc are ALL the same, its just those things Ive listed..

I know this becuase I bought a HDi 90 engine to go in a 110bhp, and had to swap ALL that above across from the 110 to the 90...

Of course, the ECU is different..
