new C3 and C5 opinions

Post by deian »

Hi all,

What do you guys think of the new C5? I like it a LOT, estate is lovely too. Anyone have one? Whats it like, conventional suspension I take it?

Also the C3? same questions as above, I was picking up my strut top from the dealers today and wife was with me, she wants a C3! It's is nice looking isn't it.

Thanks

I like the look of both of them, IIRC the C5 has with wet suspension on VTR+ and Exclusive models.

Both nice looking cars, i didnt like the C5 at first but it has grown on me, though i dont like the look of the estate, saloon looks better. Hydropneumatic suspension is standard on all Exclusive C5s and on the 2.0 16v petrol, 2.0HDi AUTO and 2.2HDi VTR+ specs, but not the 1.8 petrol or the 1.6HDi and 2.0HDi in VTR+ form. Its not on any SX models.

You can tell if they are hydractive as they look better, a lower ride, non hydractives have a higher ride position.

I do really like the new C3, i had a look at them in the Citroen showroom yesterday, very nice cars, funky, more space than the old C3 and seem well made. The DS3 looks great too.

I wouldnt mine a new look C5 at some point, they are very nice cars. Though im not sure if it would bother me if it was coil springs or hydraulic - even the coil spring version is said to ride very well.

We've just bought my gran one of the last of the old shape C3's as they discounted them massively.

List price was £10,750 and they were selling them for £6,500 brand new.

It's the bubble shape one, not the 'new' shape one.

Never been in one, never been near one so hope it's as good as they said!

The 250 mile drive home from Citroen Manchester will tell all.

David.

Hi. I have had a new C5 since Feb 09. Thought you might be interested in some comments especially on the suspension. I have always been very enthusiastic about Citroen suspension. Xantia,s were great especially the Exclusive a real magic carpet ride when cruising around 50mph. They have all had reliability problems which takes away some of the enjoyment. My last old shape C5 Exclusive always had a course low speed ride only improving with speed (and age). So having test driven the new C5 models I went for the VTR+ with springs. The low speed ride is easily as good as hydractive,s but at high speed it looses the floating sensation but is not in any way uncomfortable. I also went for the 1.6 HDi on the basis that it produces the same power as the 2.0 HDi not that long ago. It is also about 120Kg lighter than a 2.0Hdi which is a lot. Performance is not sports car but more than enough for normal driving. I also regularly see 57mpg in normal driving. I specified sat nav and a panoramic roof and have what I consider is the ideal C5 spec with reasonable running costs.

I love the look of the new estate with the 3 litre diesel. An exhaust each side finishes it off.

My brother had a saloon in France on loan. Just a dry one. He thought it was great and he is not a Citroen lover.

Sounds very nice, your not the first person ive heard liking the coil spring C5s. Though the new C5 is quite a bit heavier than the old C5, i know the 2.0 16v HDi in the new one is quite a bit slower than the same engine in our facelifted version.

I think the 1.6 is a good engine, very economical, probably going to be the most popular engine choice in the c5 i would imagine.

Has to be the 3L V6 Hdi in the new C5
Though I'd rather squeeze it into a Xantia

Well yes, if your willing to spend £30K on a C5 then by all means  That will be a very rare car, most of them you see on the road are coil sprung, probably 1.6HDis too - will make very good buys in a few years when ill be looking to replace mine :)

Interestingly the C5 now comes with a 1.6 petrol, didnt know that. Mind it does have 155bhp!!

i'd have the 1.6 petrol.

or the 3.0i hdi...mmm

the estate isn't too bad at all

but what sells it to me is the interior, brillant looking

will be keeping an eye out for one these when the prices drop, or a c6 of course
