Xantia Wiper motor problem.

Post by user_3150 »

Hi to all, not posted in a while but I do look in from time to time. Anyway my problem started today when the battery went dead. I managed to get the car going and left it running for a while but when i got in it smelt like something was burning. I cleared the windscreen of snow and tried the wiper's to find they don't work. Now in past experiance it's the motor that's burnt out. So how easy is it to change or could it be the fuse or something else. Oh and when I was getting it started my wife said the wipers kept jumping but forgot to tell me when I got in. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Alec

Not too sure if S1 and S2 Xantias use the same motor setup but they are a doddle to change on the S1s except for the fact that you need to remove the windscreen scuttle

If you remove (carefully) the scuttle the motor is sat just left of centre of the windscreen.Only half a dozen 10mm nuts/bolts and a wiring plug and out it comes :)

I know where a good motor from a S1 Xantia is located

Yes, S1 and S2's are the same EVEN if theres auto wipers fitted....

GO EASY REMOVING THE SCUTTLE TRIM OFF THE SCREEN - if its original Citroen Bonded, its a BLOODY hard crap to cut into! You'll need to VERY GENTLY heat it, I used a Hair dryer on low! OR use the sharpest knife you have EVER USED!

Not a front wiper problem - the rear wiper on my Xantia makes a horrible clanking sound. Any suggestions on how to quiten it?

Cheers for that Paul. I have just use the last light of day to remove the blade arms as I have confirmed it is the wiper motor and just could not see a way of removing the scuttle. I will get out their tommorrow hairdryer and knife in hand.

Also Colin I have sent you a PM :)

Oh dear i've cracked the windscreen. What a b*****d of a job getting the scuttle off. After cracking the screen I gave up, claimed on the insurance for a new screen and the guys at Autoglass are going to let me replace the motor at the same time as changing the screen which I think is good of them. Lesson learnt I think.

Hi Alec

Glad to put another face to a name today :D
Apologies for it only being a short meeting but that extra little job only took me 2 hours
Dont forget to make sure that scuttle is well and truly sealed in the important areas and check the wiper motor works before the scuttle goes back in place
