Does one have 14" and the other 15" wheels? I found that made a difference to the gearing between my two Xantias.Xac wrote:Yes, I'm sure Cassy was doing 75 in 5th before. Maybe I'm wrong.citroenxm wrote:Sorry Xac.... 80 @ 3000 rpm?? in 5th??
Thats roughly the same as the XUD Box... no gain there then...

She is only able to do 110 now on veg whereas before that was the top derv speed, with 115 on veg.
Come to think of it, I'm sure Juliet does 3000rpm at 80. Not found her top speed yet... but its definitely more than Cassy's
Is this engine an HDi 90 or 110 bhp

Driving Juliet today at 3000rpm it's just over 70mph, 80mph is about 3100rpm.

Oh well, that's a pity.citroenxm wrote:Xac,
Thats identical gearing to the earlyer XUD box then... so no difference there..

Would have been nice to have had longer gears.
Would have been even nicer to find a compatible 6 speed gearbod

Would a gearbox off a 306 GTI6 go on? Killing one of those for its gearbox would balance out the 205 boys killing XMs and Xantias (Activias) for the CT engines !Xac wrote:Oh well, that's a pity.citroenxm wrote:Xac,

They may VERY well go on the end of the engine, but I think the 6th gear takes up even more space, and so the SubFrame will be in the way..
But - hmm, yes a good bit of revenge..

That gearbox (the BE3-6) fits into a 306 so it should fit into a Xantia with minimal fuss, the existing gearbox on at 1.9 TD would be a BE3-5. The BE3 was also the gearbox that the 2.0 16v petrol engine came with, although the 1.9TD does produce about 10% more torque than the 2.0 petrol it should be OK with that particular gearbox.citroenxm wrote:They may VERY well go on the end of the engine, but I think the 6th gear takes up even more space, and so the SubFrame will be in the way..

The later ML5 gearbox did go into the Xantia, but not in 6 speed form, so it may or may not fit. It is designed to cope with much more torque than the 1.9TD could produce, the 2.0/2.2 HDI 16v produce about 66% more torque, so I'd expect that gearbox to be bigger and heavier.
Maybe its time to get the tape measure out an measure some stuff!
