2 little known features of Xantia's , I think !!

Post by HDI »

How many knew this ?

The bonnet can be opened upto and past vertical for better service access ? Don't do it in windy conditions though , it only rests against the stops in the just past vertical position and will blow shut quite easily !! Although I've made an extra long support strut to use in such conditions !!

The passenger side door mirror dips when reverse is selected to allow better vision. The dip position can be adjusted too !!

Now , could someone answer this Xantia question please , what is the faint temporary whistling noise after the car is locked ? Not referring to the auxiliary heater spool down.
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(
My past Citroens :-
'00 Xantia SX HDI, now dead due to accident :(

I know that one! Only way to give sufficient room to lift out a V6 engine/transmission

Only on "Exclusive" specification, and if you bust the mirror, a new replacement is about £250.

that faint noise you hear are the electrovalves still in soft mode, they will give up after about 30 seconds and let go to hard mode

didn't know about the bonnet open-ness, but i did know about the dipping mirror, it's a mk2 thing i think, i don't think i have it on my mk1 vsx

Always knew about bonnet positions.

Dipping mirrors are ONLY on Exclusive models ONLY, including Series 1 V6 (Which introduced the Exclusive spec)

(S2 SX cars DO NOT do it)

The whistle noise is the locking mechanisems just groaning inside the locks, as they are built into the locks, unlike earlyer cars like the BX where as the lock solinoids are seperate to the door locks..

Waffle waffle waffle, sorry.. something like that anyway.. Mine makes some very loud awfull noises, but always locks so far...

Oh, the filler cap and Boot still use seperate solinoids, its just the main 4 door locks Im on about...

Not on mine   But then it is a "poverty spec." Exclusive    My Activa has one though

So, Activas (S1 included) with the Winter Pack should have a dipping mirror...

The dipping N/S mirror was available as standard to any Xantia fitted with electric seats and the winter pack at the factory, which includes any VSX or Activa.

With regard to the bonnet tilt position on Xantia's I think Citroën made a special tool to hold the stay in the further rearwards position.

Dont think anyone has ever mentioned dipping mirror in Xantia ACTIVAS before, hence me not knowing that..

Did VSX's get electric leather seats, or just manual Leather...?

Jim, she WILL be dipping if my P Plate V6 has it, your certainly will

It will ONLY move if you re position the mirror WHILE your in REVERSE, then it will go back if you take it out of gear...

Have you checked it Jim?

Unless someone has re-positioned the mirror whilst reversing, the mirror will still be in the standard position from the factory. I've come across a few Xantia's and an XM like that.

Great !! If it fails I'll just live without it I think !! No doubt it has an ECU to control it too !!

If you disconnect the battery, the dipping mirror reverts to standard position. I only found this out after putting on a new battery.

I thought I'd tried adjusting the mirror whilst in reverse but it may have been a dream  I shall try again...

That's most likely the reason Keith :D

And another odd mirror fact. If you should replace a standard N/S electric mirror with a dipping one by mistake, you'll find it really moves fast on the controller, almost too fast

There's two bonnet positions in the ZX too. I didn't realise until the HG job, and now I find it difficult to find the lower one when I'm just checking stuff
