Xantia heated seat.
Alright fellas festive greeting and all that. And with it getting cold i am gonna have a look at my heated seat that doesnt work
The car is an exclusive so its all leather and the passenger seat heats up lovely, but nowt on the drivers seat. So i was wonderin if any of you guys had experience with this? Could it just be a case of checking a fues or checking a connection?
Cheers fellas

Its normally due to a break in the heating elements within the base of the seat, unfortunately the element pad is attached to the leather seat base so replacing them is somewhat expensive.
Finding a working drivers heated seat is rather rare but there are some around which have survived beyond 100k miles such as the one in Jim's Activa.

I fixed both front seats on my xm by stripping the covers off (also leather) and soldering in a short length of wire to the broken section(s) of the heater elements. A long winded and tricky operation but has lasted a couple of years now and didn't cost anything more than a pack of cable ties
More info if you want it - just ask.

Mine only work on the highest setting , nothing on the first 2 , on both seats. Would that be elements or is there a power controller to them ?

Here's the diagrams HDI.
Sorry about the quality. MK2 diagrams are printed on tissue paper and the seat ones are in the back of the book and hard to keep flat

Looks like there is only one element in the seat and a temperature sensor.
Hope these help fix the problem...

Cheers , thats great . Should keep me busy for a while !
Looks like there is an element in the back and base of the seat. Can't recall if I can feel heat in the back , I'll check next time I use them , which will probably be tomorrow by the look of the outside temp tonight. Almost -3 here already.

Ah Colin, theres a difference, IF IM CORRECT, in that the XM elements are seperate to the Seat trim, were as, on the Xantia, its a little more embedded, I think also later S2 XM's are embedded a bit deeper.. unless im getting that mixed up with S1 XM elements..colinxm wrote:I fixed both front seats on my xm by stripping the covers off (also leather) and soldering in a short length of wire to the broken section(s) of the heater elements. Hi Paul
Series 1 XM's have the heater element fabric sheet glued to the seat cushion.
Series 2 XM's have a seperate heater element.
Both are a pain to remove and repair the broken element wires.
Because of the seperate sheet the Mk2 is slightly easier to do but they counteract this little gain by using a 3 stage heat controller and switch which gives far more trouble than the simple Mk1 switch control.

Reminds me of what an old friend was always telling me when I was younger and got all excited about the latest car or bike. I'd point out all the gadgets and new features and he would say "dunno why your getting all worked up over this stuff , it's just more that will go wrong ! "
