The auto controller for windows are located ON the door

Remove door cards and it sits just below were all the plug connections are..

If its a Series 2 car, they DO NOT have this box, as the anti pinch and one touch is built into the motor, so the space is vacant...

I had a short visit to a car breaker and also tried to search for that unidentifiable part asked by MikeT.
Unfortunately I couldn't see any on that car but I keep in mind ...

I've seen other unidentifiable Bitron part in the ECU box :o :)
Does anybody know the function of these relays?

I believe they are the tachymetric relays on a Xantia.

That - though greay on Petrol cars is a Fuel Pump timer relay!

The thing that majes the pump prime when the key is first switched on, then after the engine is stopped, makes it depressure-ise slightly after a few seconds.!!

That's the double injection relay :D

It controls the power supply to the fuel pump and injectors and is operated by the ECU. These relays are indirectly operated by the immobiliser and also partially supply power to the engine ECU.

The V6 has two as it also uses one to control power to the ignition coil in addition to the fuel pump and injectors.

They're good to have as spares as they are expensive and can fail. I always carry a spare in both my running cars.

Looks like THREE of us were typing at the same time

I remember tachymetric relays from my 205 days Adam :D Now they were really quite complex devices for their time as they had quite a lot of electronics inside them to give an initial fuel pump run prior to the engine starting and then a rev detecting circuit came into play to keep the fuel pump and injectors energised only so long as the engine was running. If the engine stopped for any reason, the relay detected it and cut the fuelling.

They used to suffer dry joints on a regular basis and this would often lead to tracks burning out. Easy enough to repair though.

Thanks for the replies with lots of knowledge! (I must confess that I had to "google" tachymetric relay :) )
Somehow I thought relays would be related to aircon or cooling :? , completely misled by Bitron logo.

So that'll be another item in glove box
