Stupid question.
Has any one have a clue on when a clutch will give up.
I have a 1991 1.9D Aura ZX, with 221000km, the car is in perfect nic, and I don't drive it around like a nutter, always double de-clutch when changing gears, and don't sit at the traffic lights, holding the car in place against the clutch.
Any clues.
It's just to know if I'm in for a nice bill this year ;.)
Clutch on 1991 ZX

There are a few indicators that will help you judge clutch wear.
1. Diaphragm spring clutches get heavier as they wear.
2. ZX clutches need adjusting manually to maintain the operating clearance. The amount of adjustment left may give a guide as may the angle of the operating arm.
3. Is it starting to slip. Rev the engine and drop the clutch with the brakes on in 4th or 5th gear. The engine should stall smartly with no skidding of the clutch.
There is no hard and fast rule. We purchased a 94 ZX diesel last year with 53,000miles on it. Someone has towed with it but all looks immaculate and unstressed. Nevertheless the clutch has been replaced as it was out of adjustment and all the bolts show signs of having been removed.
