Wonky tappet.

Post by dowen »

can any one help? my c5 v6 2001 has (I think) a wonky tappet, from cold, the engine sounds OK, but if I drive for a mile or so and then leave the car for a while, on re-starting,I get a bad tappet noise. This eventually
goes away after a few miles, but will come back if I stop the car again. Recently I started the strip down o change the belt and have a look, there was an awful lot of gunge under the cam cover! So I'm thinking it could be oil ways blocked. I stopped the cam-belt change as I wasn't sure about the variable valve timing devices on the inlet camshaft! Can I remove them? Without any set up , or special tool, apart from of course pegging rods etc, do they just unbolt? I'm happy with the cam-belt change, its just these timing devices, Ive never come across them before Help! Dave.
