small suspension pipe repairable ?

Post by hdirob »

Hi all
I,ve got one of the small metal high pressure suspension pipes leaking and was wondering if they could be repaired ?

The reason for repairing rather than replacing is it goes from the front of the car all the way to the back , over the axle to o/s and into a connection block bolted underneath the axle . So looks like a major job to replace .

The leak is about 2" from the union at rear axle .

Thanks for any advice

Don't try to weld it or solder it or anything like that. What u need is a compression type , pipe to pipe line connector if u can get one in the correct size to suit the pipe. Then u would juts cut out the damaged section , install the connector , tighten it up and job done.

Martin at Pleiades will have the flare tool and pipe/ends you'll need to stitch
in a repair section as a pipe off a specialist/brake & hose specialist will only
be half the job done as the car's pipework will need a splice if you cannot undo
and renew the whole length. You'll need 3.5mm bore pipe the flare ends and
seals and the falre tool - link to a catalogue and the no1 Citroen hydraulics
contact here:

Whereabouts are you based as the only other option would be somebody here
with a flare tool etc pops over and flares the old pipe and makes a new splice?

If a line tube connector is available in the correct size flaring isn't needed.

I believe the flared end is unique to Citroen 3.5mm pipework - no other
brake flare tool will match the same stepped shoulders and sealing:

Image

The flare nut, double male bridging joint, pipework and seal are available
through GSF but the flare tool will be too specific and likely only available
from somewhere such as Pleiades.

N65988 PIPE NUT-3.5mm NUT FOR N65972 PIPE BX;CX;XM;XANTIA 0.40

N65992 PIPE CONNECTOR 2 WAY CONN. 3.5MM FOR PIPE BX;XM;CX 2.50

N65996 PIPE SEAL LHM TYPE 3.5MM PIPE SEAL BX;XM;XANTIA;CX;GSA LHM 0.65

N65972 BRAKE PIPE-50M ROLL ROLL OF 3.5MM HYD PIPE FOR CITROENS 50M 75.00

Not too sure what you mean HDi; what joint do you propose using - this is the
high pressure 3.5mm pipe I'm thinking of!?

An inline compression fitting. Cut the tube , slip a tube nut and compression olive over each end and screw them into the compresion piece. Just like a plumbing pipe fitting only for smaller tube.

Hi Guys.

Yes we do have the pipes, fittings, pipe seals, female couplings and flaring tools.

I cant give you the prices here as I dont like to advertise my wares here and also I am not at work and the prices are on the work computor, (I may well be there on Sunday as I have truck troubles and if time allows I will be fixing it)

The pipe is unique to the Citroen and personaly I would not want to trust a compression fitting in as the pressure is 175- max (2750 psi) I know that compression fittings do seal better as the pressure gets higher, but this is only when the correct size is used, the chances of getting one to fit properly on a 3.5mm pipe is very slight to nil.

The best way, wherever you get the bits from, is do it once, do it right, then forget it forever.

Regards
Martin.
