electrical gremlins

Post by deian »

Hi all,

I have a few weird electrical gremlins that some of you may know about (Car is below in my signature/profile):

Twice, i've started the car and the revometer didn't work nor did the electric windows (those are the ones i noticed at the time), at the same time the alternator (battery) light was dimly lit, I braked to a junction and the battery/alternator light went off and everything worked fine, the second time it happened I stopped the car and re-started, all fine after that too.

The blower slider switch (all positions, not just the last one) sometimes don't work, most of the time it does. Are the problems related?

They are the main problems so far, thankfully it hasn't affected the lights/wiper/glow.p/starter (yet).

Is this a dodgy earth somewhere, any likely places I need to look for anything.

Thanks

Dei!

Simple

A dodgly ignition switch! without a doubt! I could have a better one here some where, but Im also needing one too, as sometimes when I take my key out, my battery light stays on, and it actually stays on "Accessories" position, if I wiggle the key, it goes out..

Ahhh, so mine could be related to the silly immobiliser I have, an after market one! My god I hate after market alarm and immobilisers!

Basically it's one of the those tags that you shove into a hole for a second, and when you pull it out the car is in 'on', it doesn't immobilise the starter or anything on the pump (like citroen did with the keypad method).

The most stupidest thing is how it works, all it does it cut the power to the car (except the 1st position), it's so stupid, any idiot with half a brain can rewire it around the immobiliser.

Hateful stuff these aftermarket things are!

Had a customer with one of those!

It stopped working, so I ripped it out for him!

Sorted :)
