How many?

Post by andmcit »

Never thought about it before until I read it earlier;
how many Estates do you reckon Heuliez made for Citroen?

Judging by how popular Xantiae were throughout Europe between 1995 and
2000 I expected more than the figure I read - don't know how accurate it is
mind? Any guesses?

No I'm not going to start telling everyone they're as rare as Activae and V6!

So nobody has to Google or agonise over such an important fact (  )
total production of Xantia Breaks was 147 620 cars during the years
1995....2000. Production was made on Heuliez's own line and was delivered
directly to the Citroën dealer network.

So, not as many as you probably expected!
(well I didn't expect 147k; I was anticipating a far higher number).

Well after midnight in Europe and you expected a reply in under 40 minutes? TBH I consider this posting a bit frail.

Well I'm sorry if I stole everyone's thunder by answering my own question!!
Yes, it was getting late and my mind was turning a bit fuzzy around the edges...

After first reading the production figure myself the post title was my initial
reaction more than a challenge to everyone on FCF and realising that was
in fact what it looked like by not actually giving the figure, I corrected this
in the second post. It did strike me that all anyone had to do was Google
"Heuliez Xantia" and rather than drag out the whole thread unnecessarily
I posted the figure. Seems there's no pleasing everybody.

Chris is half correct too, I couldn't wait, more to do with posting it before I
forgot it by this morning.

I too would love to see the model breakdown Adam, but would speculate
that 3/4 of all the cars would mirror the main Xantia breakdown of being
TD models in the more widespread base, LX and SX trim. I don't imagine
there'd be (m)any Activated one's!!

Just admit it Andrew .....you were pished

Xantias are going fast. Loads have been scrapped and traded in for 2 grand. The 2 grand is then lost in the first year of depreciation........what a bargain

Not only that Lexi, but have you seen the prices of new cars these days, totally shocking, i wouldnt recommend anyone buy a new car at the moment.

I was in the Ford dealership getting an MOT done the other day, thought id have a look at what rubbish they are churning out. I had a sit in a Ford Fiesta 1.25 Style, pretty basic, no air con, huge bin lids stuck to the steel wheels etc etc. It was .... £11,700! And it didnt even have metallic paint! Not so long ago that would have bought you a Focus.

However, the top of the range 1.6 diesel fiesta, was £16,000!!! Its a flipping fiesta for christ sakes!

So there are no new car bargains, ok you may get £2000 for your perfectly reliable old car, but they seem to have stuck that amount on top of the cars original price. This was confirmed by a very good program on the scrappage scheme the other night. This also confirmed that keeping an older car running is far less damaging to the environment than recycling it and making a new one.

And yes, a huge bulk of that money for a new car goes straight out of the window as soon as you drive it away. Mind, if you ask me, you would have to be a raving looney to pay anywhere near £12K for a base fiesta, never mind £16 for a range topper. I dread to think how many hundreds of thousands of pounds Mondeos are selling for new!

I was having a look around some dealers yesterday, as i drove into the Skoda place i saw a fanastically clean Peugeot 206, on a t reg, in nice met gree. On the windscreen it had 'skoda scrap' written on. Its totally insane, that car would have gone for many many more years.

The scrappage scheme really annoys me, its not putting hardly any more money intou our country, but into other countries. Such as Korea, if this scrappage scheme doesnt run dry soon the UK will just be flooded with awful Kias and cheap base cars.

So, i want to know, what happens when the money for the scrappage scheme dries up, surely the car market will slow down rather dramatically?

Such a stupid idea yet again, we are just losing so many good cars for cheap rubbish, as thats what most people are buying, the cheapest of cheap cars.

Did anyone see the "Tonight" program the other night on BBC???

At the end, they lined up 4 cars, and asked a Mechanic What life have these cars got??

The BMW, H reg, he said was shot, the Volvo 850 with over 200k said it has a bit of life left, a P reg Toyota Startlet, with 38k was perfectly good for another 5 years, and the Nissan Micra, about T reg or so, with 48k had about 3 years left, so the conclusion was 3 out of 4 are PERFECTLY GOOD, and shouldn't have been scrapped!!

A conclusion? Yes, its a load of crap basically!

Yes thats the one i watched paul. Good program.

There was also a good article in the autoexpress a few weeks ago, they visited various breakers to have a look at what had been traded in for scrap. One was a Fiat Brava with only 1400 miles, yes, 1400, it looked mint.

Though im not bothered about a low mileage brava, its such a shame perfectly good cars are going to waste.

As to Andrews original Q, I can confirm ONE less! Our local dealer took in a 1997 R Reg, Last Series 1, TD estate, with just 87k with FSH, and in immaculate order in!

So thats one less!
