XANT/406 heater blower

Post by citronut »

dose the XANTIA heater blower spinn the oposite direction to one from a PUG 406 (both cars with air con ),

as i have just borrowed the blower copmplete with speed control pack from a 406, it runs fine through the speeds but there aint much blow comming out of any of the vents,

or it there a heater box direction flap servo not functioning,

and yes i have also fitted a new pollen filter,

also Jim do you have a source of the speed control transistors???

Well Malc, I WILL answer that with a YES!!

BECAUSE XM Blowers blow a different way to Xantia ones!! I put an XM blower into a Xantia, and it sucked instead of blowing, AND even reversing the polarity DOES NOT make it blow either...

Eventually, I asked Jim to repair the transister pack, which he did..

I wonder if it's got something to do with RHD and LHD?

Wouldn'thave thought so, BOTH blowers are on PASSENGER sides, both cars RHD, HOWEVER, just thinking about it right now, the XM Series ONE blower is MUCH closer to the Heter in the middle of the car then the Xantia one which is right over to the left!

On LHD Xantia heater blower spins clockwise (An air puller).
If this info helps a bit :)

Edit: Here's a pic. where blade curves are seen.

So do RHD XM Blowers, hence when fitted to a RHD Xantia it Sucks, not blows...

That will be - or should be the Transistor pack, OR in a VERY SLIM chance if you have Air Con the speed controller...

Jim fixes transistor packs, but strangely the two seem INCOMPATIBLE due to the different direction they blow...

If I'm not wrong ONLY full speed means that control module transistors (see above pic) are gone and full current passes through.
2 transistors can be replaced.

Indeed :D Farnell They have a minimum order requirement. I bought 20 last time (10 pairs) as I always replace them in pairs even though usually only one fails. Pair replacement is important using both from the same batch to ensure they share current equally.

I'll be ordering a batch soon so if you want to add some to it Malcolm, just let me know...

Yes, absolutely correct. The fan runs constantly at top speed as soon as you turn the ignition on.

Transistors are easy enough to replace except they're riveted to the heatsink and you need a good solder sucker to unsolder the base and emitter connections which are soldered to eyelets in the printed circuit board.

Use small bolts to replace the rivets and smear the transistor undersides with a little heatsink compound but take care not to use too much...

Dave, I'll always do a repair on yours for you...

yes please Jim,

i have dismantled my one and my son (Tristram ) confirmed one transitor is caput,

but in the mean time i borowed the fan complete with transistor pack from the P reg 406 i have sitting in my yard, but on fitting it there aint much blow from any of the vents, even with the fan running flat out on full speed,

and as i said earlier i have also fitted a new much needed pollen filter,
