Xantia in Finland (BLOG!)

Post by stevetheskaterboy »

Hey guys

As you all probably know from my previous threads, I am taking my xantia to finland.

We am all packed, car is prepped, winter tyres are on and im ready to go, we leave at 5am to travel there by car through europe (expecting to cover 12-13k total)

I have decided to set up a blog to let you all know what goes on, how the car performs and my little experiment.....

Me and my partner are both taking our cars, My Xantia and her Rover 820 auto, both with Michelin Alpin winter tyres, both fully serviced and ready to go with us. I want to see how they perform head to head!

By all means comment, advise and enjoy, it will be a long ride!

Looking forward to your blog Steve :D Perhaps put it in the blogs and galleries area of the forum... Sounds like it'll be very good reading.

Have a great time there and safe journey. Do keep us updated very frequently or we'll all worry if you and your partner are OK...

Nice trip. Comfy cars with good heaters are what you want for that trip. Auto Rover will be good in snow. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

Well I plan to keep it on here till I get back and then put it in blogs, I want to make sure people can see everything that goes on :D

A quick note I made earlier was that I fitted the Alpins to the cars earlier and took them both on the M6 and through birmingham and back home, the grip was suprisingly good for a specialist winter tyre on normal roads!

I have my notebook and euro usb modem packed so I will be keeping you all informed all the way.

Be intresting to see how 2 different 2.0 litre automatics handle what we throw at them

That's going to be an exciting trip for sure. :) Welcome to the icy roads of Finland! :D

And drive safe! Those Michelin Alpins aren't something I would use here through the winter, but I guess they are the best compromise for your trip. And don't forget to check the tire pressures once you get here, you'll probably need to inflate a bit...

Where in Finland are you going?

Hey all, first update!

we are over 50% of the way there, very windy but weather is not that bad.
Yep its only the two of us, both got our radios with us so we chat a lot lol, we are currently in berlin having a qick bite to eat, my partner has backache, It appears her rover isnt cut out for this journey!!

We are away for 4 weeks and will be staying in salla for most of it, its safe to say we have no chance of getting there tonight so we plan to get there by tomorrow after bedding down in a hotel

will be in touch later tonight, about 10pm uk time

interesting to see how the snow mode on the auto box would work in real life, no offence or anything, but i'm not holding my breath for the rover, although i've never driven one, not heard as many good things about them as the xantia tbh, but you obviously wouldn't be taking it if you didn't trust it.

best of luck to you both, the fins are interesting people, and they like their cars, will you be meeting up with koukku by any chance, to see that v6 activa he has :P

and fair play to jouko helenius for his kind words, you are welcomed before even arriving, thats a good omen.

Indeed I am, pics are going to be on when I return!

Its been great so far, the car hasnt not skipped a beat, the rover hasnt either, but doesnt have the comfort level of the Xant.
I must reitirate that the Alpin tyres are performing great, even on normal condition roads, testiment to quality I guess.

I have been asleep since the last post, we are leaving again at 5am, taking the long trip through poland, into russia and through to finland
