rear headrest removal:: solved
Is it me, or are the rear head rests not removable on a phase 1 xantia? they are leathers, but i doubt that would make them un-removable compared to the fabric ones.
Or do they just yank off with a bit of strength, it's pointless having seats that fall down if you have the headrests stopping them going to the floor.

Yep, the rear headrests have a small button that opens out a locating spring
in a slot that grips each leg of the headrest. I know with it all still fresh in
my mind as I had a fight with one that didn't want to come off the Activa
yesterday morning! The small button is in a kind of cassette and easily pulls
out and can get lost with idle kiddies hands and/or if it's button is broken
you'll need to entice the headrest off the seat back by inserting a flat lever
or something such as a wide screwdriver.
Incidentally, I always stand the headrest in it's normal attitude with it's legs
between the uprighted folded lower squab and the back of the front seats so
it effectively sits on the top ledge of the then upright half of the seat and
find they don't then try and make a bid for freedom or disappear into the
rear footwells.

They've got to be removable otherwise the rear seat backs cannot fold down...
I find that they get very tight if they've not been out for a fair time. Some have the squeezy thing on both seat caps and they must be pressed simultaneously to be able to pull the headrest up...
The thing that holds them in place is necessary as the metal shafts are indented just like the front ones so they can be adjusted in height to suit the personal tastes of the passenger.

Im with you on this one Deian, ive asked this query before and following advice have been all over my rear headrests and could not find a single clip or button or anything....deian wrote:well trainman, if my eye serves me correctly, it's not there on this one,
I know what you mean though, the little thing you slide sideways inwards, can't for the life of me see anything of the sorts on this one.
this is a mk1 xantia if thats any clue
As Jim says it doesnt make sense as then the seats would not fold down flat...but mine dont seem to come off and ive tried heaving them out and levering them out....there is not even a little give in them.

HA vince knows what i'm on about.... myglaren, are you on about the ones with the pushy nobble thing or the one without??
There must be a way to get them out, can anyone with a mark1 xantia have a quick flick through their citroen xantia user manual for us? pretty please? thanks
as jim says, they must come out somehow otherwise it's pointless having folding rear seats!
i will have another go tomorrow, maybe i need to pinch the leather underneath the plastic round bits to release something?

Not sure but I recall the Xantia ones being a bit of a bugger and the C5 ones are no improvement.deian wrote:HA vince knows what i'm on about.... myglaren, are you on about the ones with the pushy nobble thing or the one without??

Thats a bit of an odd one! They should just come straight out when pushing the button in. Same as on the C5s too, they can be a little bit of a fiddle but always come out. Renault, in their wisdom, fitted two buttons on some of their car headrests, maybe some people in France have 3 arms!
Its a headrest, over engineered or what!

removable but the ones on the Activa have been pulled about and some
pieces are broken off at least 2 - some folk are just too rough with things!
Andrew
I think that they get broken off when the backrest is forced flat against the front seat.. and yes the MK1 headrestraints are removeable.
