Nope Dean, not since about 7.00pm. It's getting a tad tedious all this dropping
out - deja-vu really... :?

Hi folks,

Sorry, you can blame this one on me, I was working on the server remotely earlier and went to send it for a reboot to complete a software update... and accidentially issued a shutdown command instead of restart

I'll be home in around half an hour and it'll be back as soon as.

Thought it may've been another power outage Ciarán - don't things get
lively on a Saturday night down your way?

Swansea always seems like a warzone every Fri/Sat...

They do indeed

Nah thankfully wasn't that this time.

I'm looking into the possibility of building a second, redundant machine that would contain an identical copy of the data, which the site would fail over to in the event of the first one going down.

Mind you if there was a powercut that wouldn't help anyway, but it would help protect against my stupidity

Hi folks,

The forums currently down, due to a virus attack on the webserver, which has been manifesting itself as intermittent hardware / driver failure.

This should be resolved today, but maybe not until 10 or 11pm. If necessary the whole shooting match will be moved to a freshly built machine.

Apologies for the hassle.

Hi folks,

Yep, its been up and down like a yoyo this past while, unfortunately. I went down completely the wrong route, attempting to diagnose hardware problems which didn't exist, because of the way the machine has been acting. That wasted a lot of time.

Thing is though everytime I thought I had it resolved by changing components etc, it would lull me into a false sense of security by working for a few days, then dying just when least expected... a mind of it's own, a bit like an XM really!

Well it should be back late tonight / early hours of tomorrow morning.
Unforunately after that last wee speech saying it was viral and there were no hardware problems, after sorting out all of that, the mainboard in the machine actually failed yesterday without warning.

Its now all been moved to a new machine, which I'll finish configuring when I get home in a couple of hours. Sorry its been out so long, but hopefully this will see an end to the problems.

Don't worry about it Ciaran. The fact that about half the members are now on tranquilisers shouldn't concern you at all.
