normal coolant temperature ?
What is the normal temp gauge reading for a Xant HDI 110 ?
Mine runs a shade over 80 in normal use at motorway or A road cruising.

Sorry to put the cat amoungst the pegions, but Id think a shade over 80 would be too hot, all the 3 HDi Xantias here, AND the D turbos run between 70 and 80 on the guage, which I feel is more comfortable...
Id not be keen on anything a bit over the 80 - I realise it may be perfectly normal, but not for me..

I posted about the rad fans not appearing to cut in but there was a reply that the cut in temp is well over 90 !! I did think that was way too high !!

Mine runs a rock steady 80ish (needle just on the bottom of the 90 on the gauge), and has done ever since I got it. I think 70-80 is too low, caused by a leaky thermostat - both my Xantias TDs went like that as they approached 100k. Never bothered to change the stat mind.... The handbook says the temp might go up to 110 in 'normal' op - although their version of normal is probably towing 1.5te of caravan up the alps on a 40°C day!

80 or just a shade over is right for the HDis. Ive had three now and they all sit at roughtly the same.
Just had a new temp sensor on the 206 and thats now sitting just a shade above 80, where it was spot on 80 before.
They never get too hot though, my commute is usually in very heavy crawling traffic and they never budge above their normal running temp.
80-82 is fine for normal use.

HDi 110 - c/w undertray (I think I refitted it last time...!). Mine is only a poverty spec Forte so no oil temp gauge - but when I had a 1.9TD VSX with oil temp gauge, the oil (apparently) ran a lot cooler without the undertray fitted (I had to cut it off to change something, and never bothered refitting it). Xsara Picasso lost its tray after the last oil change - must get some new clips to get it back on to keep the oil temp up in the winter.HDI wrote:

I don't expect our temperature gauges are going to be exactly the same, or perform with really great accuracy.
For me (albeit not an HDI), the important thing is when I see a change from the gauge's normal reading. Perhaps most importantly, we know what the gauge reads just as the fans cut in, and that tells us when it's getting hot! Then we want the gauge to tell us the temperature's coming back down.

Agreed , I just needed an average temp reading from a few owners to determine what I should accept as normal. So just a needle width over 80 seems the norm so mines ok

I often wonder if this is one of the purposes of the undertray. My Activa takes ages to get it's oil temperature up and has no tray (did the Activa ever have one?) but the V6 warms its oil a lot faster but then there's no sump as such on that engine out in the full force of the breeze.RichardW wrote: HDi 110 - c/w undertray (I think I refitted it last time...!). The undertray is part of the aero design and will definitely influence operating temps and warmup.
The main reason I want to find a replacement for mine , which is missing , is to keep road filth and salt out of the engine bay.
