AWFULL Wheel wobble on LEFT TURNS only!

Post by citroenxm »

Hi all.. as above really, car in question is a Series 2, 1999 W reg, Xantia Hdi 110bhp...

Ive check ALL the obvious - BOTTOM Ball joints, (Brand new one on drivers side), track rod ends, no play, rubber bushes are ok..

Could it be a CV joint/drive shaft, or a caliper problem??

Any sugestions? Thanks guys!

I'd suspect either the handbrake is being pulled on on a left turn due to a bad/misadjusted cable or one of the CV joints is iffy; more than likely one of the inboard ones.

I once had a similar issue and it coincided with having a new CV boot fitted by a garage. It transpired that'd removed the CV joint and on reassembly had neglected to replace the C clip on the end of the driveshaft. On hard left turns the joint was nearly sliding right off the end of the driveshaft splines.

A new C clip and all was well.

Cheers Jim, you have really actually answered my suspsion..

When I did the engine job ((YES its the same blydi car) I had to split the shaft at the half shaft inner joint, Drivers side, and then it wouldn't go back together properly... I wonder if this - no infact, Im now more certain this is the problem.. I have another un split shaft off the HDi I stripped couple of months ago, Ill bang that one in for him... and see what happens..

Jim

Thank you SO MUCH! You hit the nail on the head! It was the DRIVERS Side drive shaft, the inner CV joint..

To be looked at later

hi Paul, maybe in Oct :)

a cheap xantia weekend would be good, rather than the gas guzzlers...

I still need an S2 green bonnet and wing if you see anything up there...

Oh blimey! there probably was one, someone had a green Xantia S2 on ebay a while back, then pulled the listing and decided to scrap the car due to costs to repair - they were in Dolgellau I think, I sent them an email too moaning about the stupid price their mechanic had told them it would cost to fix but of course I was too late - It was green too :-(

Ill keep my eye open for you!

I am refering to the C clip CitroJim mentioned about earlier in this thread, and quoted above.

Ah right, no the C Clip was fine - It seems like the inner CV as it was sounding a bit rough when I turned the wheel while jacked up...

New shaft and it sounded much smoother and quiter, and according to my customer report all is well!

Thankgod at last!

The inner tri ax on the housemates ZX shedded many needles when I finally got around to taking it apart.. caused much wobbling in middle gears..

Last time I looked (a few months ago) Autos and Sons at Bottisham near Cambridge had a green Mk2 with straight panels. Cars generally sit around for a long time there, and prices are reasonable.
