All Xantias apart from the base spec had remote central locking with a rather chunky key which the key blade folded into. These keys are almost identical to the Xm keys also, with two buttons and a tiny red light.

However S2 Xantias got an even more chunky key, with slightly smaller buttons but the blade folded into it too.

Early S1 cars did not have the key pad, then around 96 they got the key pad and i cant remember if all S2 cars have them?

Or thats what i know, could be totally wrong of course

Dunno. It was parked outside the hotel I was staying in and I went to have a look - I was sat on the terasse enjoying a beer and waiting for a taxi when it pulled up outside. I'm just nosy but liked the name.

This was it from the rear, no help there I'm afraid.

To settle the discussion on keypads, Series 1 petrol Xantia's had them from the start of production (I think I'm correct on that but definately from 95 onwards) on whereas diesels gained them from 96 onwards, Series 2 never had them due to a key transponder.

Yes I know, thats what I tried to say above.

I cant confirm, though, with early petrols.. not really had anything to do with them..

The early petrols are great, you should try having something to do with them!
I can confirm my K registration 16v 2.0i VSX has a keypad immobiliser fitted
and fully working fine - I don't have a problem with them when they work.

Ah Andrew, your Key point there - 16valve..

I wouldn't entertain an 8v Petrol. Whay have 30 mpg, with more ignition to go wrong, Plugs, leads, coil packs.. and NO kick in the back, when in a DERV, I can have a shove - well a slight shove, no plugs, no leads, no ignition to pack up, and 40 mpg instead...

Sorry, andrew, unless its a BIG petrol with pleanty of touque then, a small petrol, nope not for me...

Thanks for the information, mine's a Series 2.

I have only got one key for the car, how do I get a second one, hopefully not only through a dealer?

Not being funny Paul, have you 'let rip' in a 2.0i Xm WITHOUT A CAT fitted!

Perfectly adequate doesn't begin to cover it - no slouch by any means
- try convincing some of the lads in their chavved up deathtraps or what
ever nasty they're using that it's a 100andwhateveritis bhp boggo spec
8v i they're trying to keep up with as they're left cutting corners, weaving
all about the road and panic braking whilst I'm not even 'kissing' the cat's
eyes on the twisties whilst on the way to the barn!

The car feels remarkably tractable and even feels small and sporty whereas
the s2 Xm 2.1 auto feels stodgy and portly.

As far as I know it is a dealer only option.

If you buy a new plipper it has to be coded to the car and the dealer will tell you that only they can do it.

There is conflicting info on that though and a guide on how to do it on the forum somewhere.

The basic idea is to turn on the ignition and aim both plippers at the receiver, push the buttons for about ten seconds until the immobiliser indicator goes out - something along those lines anyway.

For that you need three keys of course. The third one doesn't need the remote, just a valet key is fine. Has to have the RFID in it though.

My first - VERY first XM, was a base spec, 2.o Multi point i, not sure if it was catted or not.. it wasn't quick, but it was also noisey too... so apart from recent turbos, thats the only 2.oi I ve driven.. however, Ive a "Car" magazine road test of the Xantia 2.oi 16 Valve - a 1993 K reg one, in a group test, arent they 165bhp.. that sounds nice - infact, more power then a standard Activa... ??

Must depend on the country too. In New Zealand the only Xantia's that ever had the keypad were the series 1 Activa's. (Of which very few made it into the country, maybe a few dozen) All other Xantia's that I've seen (while in NZ) never had a keypad...
